Bitumen reflectance data from a sample collected from the vertical EOG TATTOO D129 A28-F/094-O-10 ("Tattoo") well in the Horn River Basin, as part of the collection of a high-resolution geochemical data set.
In order to determine the innate microbial community of shale gas reservoirs and how they are impacted by hydraulic fracturing, this study analyzed biomass collected from produced water and rock from hydraulically fractured wells in the Utica Shale. The samples include rock chips from a drill core from one Utica well, produced water from that same Utica well, and produced water from 12 different Utica wells that had been in production between 1-5 years, spanning the oil and gas windows of SE Ohio. The samples were filtered for biomass, extracted, amplified, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed on the Illumina MiSeq platform.

This dataset provides national scale location information for known, publicly available, data on helium gas concentrations, reported in mol%. The dataset was created as part of the effort by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to conduct an assessment of helium resources in accordance with the Helium Stewardship Act of 2013, Public Law 113-40. The data were collected from the USGS Energy Geochemistry Database, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) databases, State geological survey databases, and a thorough review of the published literature. This dataset represents an aggregation of multiple datasets into one unified, cohesive system that has a number of attributes for use in a resource assessment and for dissemination...
These data include geochemical analyses of rock, mine waste, sediment, and soil samples collected from the Aynak copper deposit, Logar Province, Afghanistan in 2019. In addition, these data include geochemical analyses of water samples collected from the Aynak copper deposit, Logar Province, Afghanistan in 2019.
Note: this data release has been superseded by a new version 3.0 published in 2023. Find the new version here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9DSRCZJ. During hydrocarbon production, water is typically co-produced from the geologic formations producing oil and gas. Understanding the composition of these produced waters is important to help investigate the regional hydrogeology, the source of the water, the efficacy of water treatment and disposal plans, potential economic benefits of mineral commodities in the fluids, and the safety of potential sources of drinking or agricultural water. The U.S. Geological Survey National Produced Waters Geochemical Database v2.3 is an updated compilation of geochemical and related information...

This data release contains zircon U-Pb (n=1467) and Hf (n=332) data for five modern rivers (Connecticut, Susquehanna, Roanoke, Peedee, and Chattahoochee) draining the Appalachian mountain belt. The data show that zircon crystallization ages are characterized by several discrete populations that often correspond with orogenic episodes in the Mesoproterozoic and Paleozoic, with distinct differences between the various rivers sampled. ɛHf values are more consistent geographically, but differ between the Grenville and Paleozoic (Taconic, Acadian, and Alleghenian) orogenies.
Biochar is a carbon-rich substance that is derived through the thermochemical conversion of biomass. Biochar is recognized for its significance in environmental applications and sustainable agriculture. In an effort to comprehend how the source material and pyrolysis parameters influence its properties, reflected light microscopy is being used to produce microscopic images for analysis of selected physical and chemical properties. An atlas of microscopic images of biochar has been compiled by the Indiana Geological and Water Survey at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, USA, containing more than 300 images contributed by researchers across the globe. USGS contributed 13 photomicrograph images from two biochar source...

Discharges from abandoned coal mines and associated mine wastes represent historic and persistent sources of pollution in the Appalachian Basin, United States. In this study, we conducted the first-ever survey of radium (Ra) in coal mine drainage (CMD) water and solid samples in the United States. Samples were collected from 4 untreated coal mine discharges and 9 treated coal mine discharges (i.e., passive or active treatment systems in place) in Pennsylvania, representing both bituminous and anthracite coal regions. Dissolved Ra in CMD is relatively low (below detection to 2.06 Bq/L); however, Ra accumulates in associated CMD solids (12.6 to 875.1 Bq/kg). Total rare earth element (REE) + yttrium (Y) content in...

The Yukon-Tanana Upland airborne magnetic geophysical data merge provides a merged raster grid of magnetic data for the Yukon-Tanana Upland (YTU), Alaska. This dataset provides a regionally consistent magnetic grid while retaining as much detail as possible of the originating data by leveling all the region's magnetic grids to one another. This 100-m cell-size magnetic grid of the YTU will assist in evaluating the region's geologic structure, geologic processes, tectonic evolution, and mineral resource potential. The grid was compiled from previous studies published by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS).
This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units, assessment input data, and resulting fact sheet data tables for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in the Norphlet Formation of the Western Gulf Basin Province, U.S. Gulf Coast Region. The assessment unit is the fundamental unit used in the National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The assessment unit is defined within the context of the higher-level total petroleum system. The assessment unit is shown herein as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or)...
