From July through November 2018, 48 environmental samples and four quality-control samples were collected throughout the Lower Hudson, Chemung, and Eastern Lake Ontario River Basins. Samples were collected from seven production wells and eight domestic wells in the Eastern Lake Ontario Basin, 13 production wells and 12 domestic wells in the Lower Hudson River Basin, and four production wells and four domestic wells in the Chemung River Basin. Of the wells sampled, 27 were completed in bedrock and 21 were completed in sand and gravel. Approximately 20 percent of samples were collected from wells that were previously sampled in 2003, 2008, and 2013. Groundwater samples were collected prior to any treatment or filtration...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides phytoplankton data for samples collected from twelve large river sites throughout the United States, from June through October 2019. All data are reported as raw calculated values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. The dataset includes all routine and quality assurance/quality control samples collected as part of a National Water Quality Assessment Project pilot study to describe cyanobacteria and cyanotoxin occurrence in the Nation's large rivers. Phytoplankton were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level with both abundance (reported as both natural units and cells) and biovolume reported.

This data release contains results of a high-water mark survey across the five boroughs of New York City following flash flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida, September 1, 2021. The survey was conducted between September 7 and November 23, 2021, and is based on observations of mud, debris, and seed lines left by the flooding. Real time and static GNSS surveying as well as available lidar data were used to determine high-water mark elevations at 83 locations. Additional data associated with Hurricane Ida flooding can be found in the USGS Flood Event Viewer, https://stn.wim.usgs.gov/fev/#2021Ida
This data release contains geospatial data defining estimates of the depth to water and water-table altitude in the upper glacial and Magothy Aquifers, the potentiometric surface of the confined Magothy and Jameco Aquifers, and the potentiometric surface of the Lloyd and North Shore Aquifers on Long Island, New York. Estimates are based on 502 water-level measurements made in wells across Long Island during March-April 2006. Water-table contours were interpolated using measurements from 341 wells screened in the upper glacial aquifer or shallow Magothy Aquifer. Potentiometric-surface contours in the confined Magothy and hydraulically connected Jameco Aquifer were interpolated using measurements from 102 wells. Potentiometric-surface...

This document provides a summary of surface water-quality, streamflow, and groundwater data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) within the Central Pine Barrens (CPB) Region of Suffolk County, New York. The data were collected in cooperation with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the Town of Brookhaven under a five-year comprehensive water resources monitoring program. The surface water-quality data within the CPB for the 2018 water year (October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018) includes data from the Carmans River and the Peconic River. The streams were sampled several times throughout the year at seven pre-determined locations. The Carmans River was sampled at five locations: 1) CARMANS RIVER AT...

Groundwater samples collected between 2016 and 2018 from 56 shallow (<40 m depth) monitoring wells in Long Island, N.Y., were collected in support of the Long Island Pesticide Pollution Prevention Strategy. Each well was sampled at least once and analyzed for over 200 pesticides and pesticide degradates as part of this study. Results presented here also include field and inorganic analysis data, as well as neonicotinoid (LC9045) and glyphosate pesticide data collected from select monitoring wells. Data collection and analysis was supported by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Suffolk County Department of Health Services, and Long Island Commission for Aquifer Protection. The results presented...

This data release contains the input, output, and model code used to run a transient simulation of a previously published (Walter and others, 2020) steady-state regional model of Long Island, N.Y. The original model code was updated to MODFLOW 6 (version 6.3.0) and incorporates monthly transient stress periods to simulate conditions from 2005-2019 following methods described in Walter and others (2020). Selected remedial stresses (groundwater extraction and return) were incorporated for select locations in southeastern Nassau County. No modifications were made to the hydrologic boundaries, model layers, or hydraulic properties specified in the original model. A uniform value of 0.25 was used to represent specific...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains model scenario input and output files and nine hydrology and water-quality models developed using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). The models represent nine watersheds in eastern New York that drain to Lake Erie or the Niagara River and were created, calibrated, and validated for hydrology, sediment, and nutrients as baseline scenarios. Twenty-six additional scenarios were created to explore the effects of agricultural and urban best management practices, point source discharges, and green infrastructure on the water quality of tributaries to Lake Erie/Niagara River. Model documentation and scenario development are described in Merriman and others...

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Tug Hill Commission, the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Tug Hill Land Trust collected horizontal-to-vertical seismic soundings at 139 locations in the Northern and Central parts of the Tug Hill Glacial Aquifer. The goal of the project was to help determine thickness of the unconsolidated deposits and depth to bedrock. The HVSR technique, commonly referred to as the passive-seismic method, is used to estimate the thickness of unconsolidated sediments and the depth to bedrock (Lane and others, 2008). The passive-seismic...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides continuously-measured turbidity data collected from ten sites in Kansas and two sites in Virginia from October 2014 to September 2017. All data are reported as raw measured values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. Water-quality monitors were used to measure turbidity at hourly or fifteen-minute intervals for field comparisons and ten-second intervals for laboratory comparisons. This dataset includes all continuously measured data collected from eleven field sites and one laboratory site as part of a study to evaluate the variability in selected turbidity sensors and standards.

The dataset is composed of four tables containing data collected during screening surveys for invasive Round Goby (Neogobius melanostomus) at 12 sites on the Eastern Erie Canal in New York between Oneida Lake and the Hudson River from 2016 to 2023. The sampling techniques and frequency of sampling were adapted over time to optimize the efficiency of the study effort. From 2016-2019 eDNA water sampling and traditional fish surveys using seining, trapping, and benthic trawling were conducted twice annually (spring and summer) at the 12 sites. From 2020-2022, eDNA water sampling and traditional fish surveys using benthic trawling and electrofishing were conducted twice annually (spring and summer). In 2023, benthic...
