Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses were done for selected reaches of the Grand River, Red Cedar River and Sycamore Creek near Lansing, Michigan. To update and expand a portion of the Federal Emergency Management Agency detailed Flood Insurance Study, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the City of Lansing initiated a cooperative study. The study comprised a 3.2-mile reach of the Grand River, a 30.2-mile reach of the Red Cedar River, and a 12.0-mile reach of Sycamore Creek. Historical streamflow data from multiple streamgages, Grand River at Lansing, MI. (USGS station number 04113000), Red Cedar River at East Lansing, MI. (USGS station number 04112500), Red Cedar River near Williamston, MI. (USGS station number...

These data describe daily mean air temperature, soil temperature, soil-water (moisture) content, and solar radiation at two edge-of-field sites monitored as part of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. These data were used to catalog the general range of conditions at each site in order to provide context for when sub-surface agricultural drainage (tile drains) is visible in remote-sensing imagery available from DigitalGlobe and Google Earth.

Digital flood-inundation maps for a 6.6-mile reach of the St. Joseph River at Elkhart, Indiana were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The flood-inundation maps, which can be accessed through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Science Web site at http://water.usgs.gov/osw/flood_inundation/, depict estimates of the areal extent and depth of flooding corresponding to selected water levels (stages) at the USGS streamgage 04101000, St. Joseph River at Elkhart, Ind. Near-real-time stages at this streamgage may be obtained on the Internet from the USGS National Water Information System at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ or the National Weather...

During 2013-2017, the U.S. Geological Survey, National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Project, collected water samples year-round from the National Water Quality Network – Rivers and Streams (NWQN) and reported on 221 pesticides at 72 sites across the US in agricultural, developed, and mixed land use watersheds. Pesticide Toxicity Index (PTI) scores, a screening-level tool that uses an additive, toxic-unit model, were calculated to estimate the potential chronic and acute toxicity to 3 taxonomic groups – fish, cladocerans, and benthic invertebrates. The pesticide that makes the single largest (maximum) contribution to the PTI is called TUmax. This dataset consists of the PTI and TUmax scores, as well as, the TUmax...

An investigation was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs that found 1,132 transportation and utility assets in Indiana are vulnerable to fluvial erosion hazards due to close proximity to actively migrating streams. Locations of transportation assets (bridges, roadways, and railroad lines) and selected utility assets (high-capacity overhead power-transmission lines, underground pipelines, water treatment facilities, and in-channel dams) were determined using aerial imagery hosted by the Google Earth platform. Identified assets were aggregated by stream reach, county, and class. The contents of this data release include (1) a comma-delimited...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Little River Water-Quality Consortium (LRWQC), collected water samples at 19 sites in the upper Little River Basin, Kentucky, from November 1, 2012 to November 30, 2014. This digital dataset contains site information, analyzing laboratories and methods, and water chemistry for these samples. Water chemistry results include concentrations of nutrients, suspended sediment, dual-nitrate isotopes, Escherichia coli, and microbial-source genetic markers.

A rain garden and other stormwater control measures (SCM) were installed at Gary City Hall in Gary, Indiana to retain water, increase infiltration, and divert stormwater from city sewers. In order to investigate the impacts of the installed SCMs, hydrologic data were collected prior to and following the installation to estimate site water budgets (Lampe and others, 2022). The Episodic Master Recession (EMR) method was used to estimate recharge rates at five different locations for inclusion in the site water budgets (Heppner and Nimmo, 2005; Nimmo and others, 2015). Input data for the EMR software package were collected from a rain gage and five monitoring wells with installed pressure transducers at different locations...

These data are bathymetry (lake bottom elevation) in XYZ format (Easting, Northing, Elevation), generated from the May 30–June 1, 2023, bathymetric survey of Buckhorn Lake, Kentucky, from the dam to CR-1475 (19.5 miles total reach length). Hydrographic data were collected using a RESON 210 kHz NaviSound single-beam echosounder (SBES) with a Hemisphere A222 integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS) smart antenna. The SBES and GNSS antenna were mounted on a marine survey vessel, and data were collected as the survey vessel traversed the lake along planned survey lines. A total of 380 survey lines were oriented approximately perpendicular to the primary flow direction at generally 250-foot or 500-foot spacing....
