A GAP Analysis uses GIS layers provided by the GAP Analysis Program (species distribution models, stewardship data) to determine which areas within a species distribution have protected status and to identify possible conservation gaps. This GAP Analysis was conducted for Greater Sage-grouse within the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. About 7.6% of the Sage-grouse's total predicted distribution is within the SRLCC (based on GAP distribution models). There are four products in this ScienceBase item: an Excel spreadsheet with analysis data (see list below), a GIF image map of the SRLCC (displaying predicted sage-grouse distribution and areas with protected status), a map package containing the GIS layers used...

From http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/species/: "GAP's Species data includes vertebrate range maps and distribution models for amphibians, birds, mammals, and reptiles occurring in the U.S. These kinds of maps and data are fundamental to conservation planning, forecasting (e.g., climate change), and research." Download data (http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/species/data/download/), view data in the GAP Species Viewer (http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/species/viewer/) or access web services (http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/species/data/web-map-services/)
The USGS GAP Analysis Program has developed range maps and distribution models for 1401 species, 604 of which are found within the SRLCC. This record's parent folder contains several examples of GAP species web services. The GAP website has a complete list of available web services for species as well as a map viewer for species data. Species: Bighorn Sheep ( Ovis canadensis) There are two web services for this species: the range map, showing the geographic limits within which the species can be found, and a distribution model, which predicts the environment within the range that is suitable for occupation by the species. Link to metadata for GAP range maps and distribution models. To access services, select...
