FISHTAIL: A decision support mapper for conserving stream fish habitats of the Northeast Climate Science Center (NECSC) region, extended to the Mississippi Basin for use in conservation planning applications such as the Gulf Hypoxia Initiative. Assessing current and future condition of fluvial habitats Human landscape disturbances occurring throughout the Northeast U.S. that include urbanization, agriculture, and dams have multiple effects on the region’s streams which support economically and socially valuable stream fishes. Changes in climate are expected to cause additional changes in stream habitats, including changing water temperatures, which will potentially alter future stream fish assemblages. To manage...

Projects developed at smaller scales than the Mississippi Basin using the conceptual framework and/or data layers from the Gulf Hypoxia Initiative. These projects are managed by a range of agencies and organizations. As of Summer 2017, the following organizations have used the Blueprint: 1) Decatur County (IN) Comprehensive Plan Revision - cartographic illustrations to provide zoning protection for key areas in the county for prairie, wetland and forest conservation. 2) FishTail: Stream Vulnerability Assessment – Provided input on development of a decision support tool for assessing climate vulnerability, land use impacts and conservation status of stream fish communities in the Northeast Climate Science...
The multi-LCC Mississippi River Basin/Gulf Hypoxia Initiative is a joint effort to find the nexus of water quality, wildlife, and people in the Mississippi River Basin. Integrating hundreds of data layers into a coherent spatial analysis tool, the Precision Conservation Blueprint v1.0 will provide a significant targeting and planning tool for individuals and organizations across the basin to identify opportunity areas for the implementation of specific conservation practices that have maximum multiple benefits for wildlife, water quality (gulf hypoxia), and people and agricultural productivity.Practice Fact Sheets identify a dozen or more high impact conservation actions that have potential for multi-sector benefits...
