The project team examined State Wildlife Action Plans (SWAPs) from 15 southeastern states and Puerto Rico in order to: 1) identify the various approaches used to address climate change in the recent SWAP updates, 2) highlight key commonalities and differences among the states, and 3) improve understanding of the challenges and opportunities that state agencies face as they address climate change risks. Methods included detailed review of the SWAPs and follow-up interviews with SWAP coordinators. This dataset reviews examples of climate adaptation planning tools, approaches, and resources referenced in SWAPs and interviews.

We compiled and analyzed a database of burn permits for prescribed fires conducted in Florida and Georgia from 2006-2016. The dataset contains the number of permitted burns and expected acres burned by county in the two states for every day in the 11 year period. Also included are the county-wide average daily weather conditions for temperature and relative humidity, calculated from the University of Idaho gridMet dataset.

Prescribed burning is a critical tool for managing wildfire risks and meeting ecological objectives, but its safe and effective application requires that specific meteorological criteria are met. This dataset contains results from a study examining the potential impacts of projected climatic change on prescribed burning in the southeastern United States.
