Our focal species [FS] process and the surrogate species [SS] process as described in the guidance and workshops are similar in some respects and substantially different in others; particularly, the explicit objectives and process of the SS approach are significantly different that the current FS approach, although some of the products may happen to overlap because of some shared values and criteria.Not all FS selected by the GCP LCC Science Team may need to be commensurable with the SS expectations; some species may better fit the needs of other partners that may differ from the goals and approach of the SS process and of USFWS.
