Recent geomorphic changes observed along the Pecos River in east-central New Mexico have prompted concern that quality egg and larval fish retention habitat for the federally listed Pecos bluntnose shiner (Notropis simus pecocensis, hereafter shiner) is declining. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is interested in evaluating current habitat conditions and projecting future trends by conducting a comprehensive and in-depth study of the Pecos River’s fluvial geomorphology and hydrology.
