The development and the generation of the datasets that are published through this data release were based on the results and findings of the report Ostheimer, C.J., 2021, Geospatial data sets and hydraulic models for selected streams near Rittman in Wayne and Medina Counties, Ohio.: U.S. Geological Survey, https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20215040. The geospatial dataset contain final versions of the raster and vector geospatial data and its related metadata, and the model archive dataset contains all relevant files to document and re-run the surface-water (SW) hydraulic model that are discussed in the report.

Digital flood-inundation maps were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and the City of Rittman as part of a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Study (FIS). The flood-inundation maps show estimates of the areal extent corresponding to the 1% and 0.2% annual-exceedance probability floods. Flood profiles were computed for each stream reach by means of a one-dimensional step-backwater model.
