Collection of seismic film canister records from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Seismic monitoring in Hawaii began in 1912 and has evolved considerably since then. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory now has a seismic network that extends across the entire Island of Hawai'i. Over the years, the monitoring, analytical, and interpretive capabilities of the network has increased. These seismic film canister records were produced by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory as part of the seismic monitoring network in 1968–1997. They are contained in wooden creates. Crates are stored on a total of 17 pallets, with each pallet containing ~30 crates. Film-reading equipment is also included in the collection.
