One CSV file with data from basic field surveys of southern sea otters at five sites in California, USA, including (from north to south) Elkhorn Slough, Monterey, Big Sur, Piedras Blancas, and San Luis Obispo, are provided. These are the data used to fit models in Law et al. 2024 (full citation in the larger work) publication in Science. The data consist of otter age, sex, and size morphometrics, measured from sea otter captures; associated forage information collected by visual surveys; and hardness of forage prey species. Complete description of the study objectives, methods, field sites, and uses of these data for analyses and interpretations can be found in Law et al. 2024. Although it is well documented that...

Data accompanying the manuscript 'Patterns and drivers of early conifer regeneration following stand-replacing wildfire in Pacific Northwest (USA) temperate maritime forests' by Laughlin, Rangel-Parra, Morris, Donato, Halofsky and Harvey published in Forest Ecology and Management. Data include field measurements of post-fire seedling abundance and additional information about the forest stands where data were collected. See the main text of the manuscript for complete descriptions of how data were collected, and greater specifics on values and classifications.

The National Geologic Map Database (NGMDB) is a Congressionally mandated national archive of geoscience maps, reports, and stratigraphic information. The Geologic Mapping Act of 1992 and its Reauthorizations calls for the U.S. Geological Survey and the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) to cooperatively build this national archive, according to technical and scientific standards whose development is coordinated by the NGMDB. The NGMDB consists of a comprehensive set of publication citations, stratigraphic nomenclature, downloadable content in raster and vector formats, unpublished source information, and guidance on standards development. The NGMDB contains information on more than 110,000 maps and...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. The USGS compiles online access to water-resources data collected at approximately 1.5 million sites in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS, sensor resides aboard the Terra and Aqua platforms, offering a view the Earth's surface every 1-2 days. The MODIS sensor collects data within 36 spectral bands, ranging in wavelengths from 0.4 µm to 14.4 µm and provides us with imagery at a nominal resolution of 250 m at nadir for two bands, 500 m resolution for 5 bands, and the remaining 29 bands at 1 km. Many data products are derived from MODIS/Terra including surface reflectance, emissivity, land surface temperature, vegetation indices, thermal anomalies and fire, leaf area index, and evapotranspiration. This metadata record is intended to represent the mission as a whole and to direct consumers to...

Wind speed, wind direction (3D) and gas concentrations are measured at 10 Hz and statistically processed using the eddy covariance technique to half-hour estimates of flux rates of gas exchange between the ecosystem and atmosphere. Three gases were measured: carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor. Simultaneous measurements of environmental drivers are also measured and recorded as half-hourly values: photosynthetic photon flux density, downwelling and upwelling short and long wave radiation, air temperature, relative humidity and precipitation. Variable names and units follow AmeriFlux and FLUXNET standards. This site is a flotant herbaceous freshwater marsh in Salvador Wildlife Management Area near Luling, LA.

The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) is one of five state-of-the-art instrument sensor systems operating on the Terra spacecraft. The Terra satellite was launched on December 18, 1999. Terra flies in a sun-synchronous polar orbit, crossing the equator at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). ASTER utilizes a unique combination of wide spectral coverage and high spatial resolution in the visible near-infrared through shortwave infrared to the thermal infrared regions. It is a partnership between NASA, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan, and Japan Space Systems (J-spacesystems)....

The U.S. Geological Survey's National Water-Use Information Program is responsible for compiling and disseminating the nation's water-use data. The USGS works in cooperation with local, State, and Federal environmental agencies to collect water-use information. USGS compiles these data to produce water-use information aggregated at the county, state, and national levels. Every five years, data at the county level are compiled into...
