The British Columbia Marine Conservation Analysis (BCMCA) is a collaborative project assembling and analyzing spatial information about Canada's Pacific Ocean. The overall goal of the BCMCA is to identify marine areas of high conservation value and marine areas important to human use. Results of the project are intended to inform and help advance marine planning initiatives in BC by providing collaborative, peer-reviewed scientific analyses based on the best ecological and human use spatial data at scales relevant to a BC coast-wide analysis.

This data set represents the spatial distribution of the commercial halibut fishery within the International Pacific Halibut Commission's statistical areas for British Columbia and was provided by the IPHC. The statistical areas were digitized by the IPHC and most vertices coincide with the historical IPHC areas. For accurate digitization, additional vertices were inserted by referring to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and CHS (Canadian Hydrographic Survey) Mercator projected charts. The BCMCA used the statistical areas to join the aggregated catch information from 1991-2006, also provided by the International Pacific Halibut Commission. Catch data is assigned to statistical areas using (in...

Throughout its native range in the Eastern U.S., the brook trout is a culturally and economically important species that is sensitive to warming stream temperatures and habitat degradation. The purpose of this assessment was to determine the impacts that projected future land use and climate changes might have on the condition of stream habitat to support self-sustaining brook trout populations. The study region encompassed the historic native range of brook trout, which includes the northeastern states and follows the Appalachian Mountains south to Georgia, where the distribution is limited to higher elevation streams with suitable water temperatures. Relationships between recent observations of brook trout and...

This shape file represents an ecological boundary for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (CCE) as defined by the Crown Managers Partnership (CMP). The CMP developed the boundary through a series of meetings held in 2008, including a meeting between the CMP and non government organizations working in the Crown on July 23, 2008. The purpose of this exercise was to develop an ecological justification for the CCE, to enable analysis and tracking of the ecosystem from an ecological health perspective. The CMP notes that this extent does not represent the true economic, social and cultural impact on the CCE from surrounding urban areas. In Alberta the eastern boundary was delineated by the Foothills Fescue Subregion...
