This geodatabase is to provide an example on how the Collector for ArcGIS (Classic) application can be used to collect verified field-level irrigation data that can be used to train and validate the models like the Landsat-based Irrigation Dataset (LANID) product. The 10 Montana counties included in this data release were partially mapped, digitized, and field verified for the crops grown during the 2019 and 2020 growing seasons. Attribute data were collected for selected agricultural fields including irrigation status (actively irrigated or non-irrigated), irrigation type, primary water source, crop type, multiple attributes for field remarks, verification date and team, visit status, and confidence levels of some...

In 2013, the first of several Regional Stream Quality Assessments (RSQA) was done in the Midwest United States. The Midwest Stream Quality Assessment (MSQA) was a collaborative study by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA), the USGS Columbia Environmental Research Center, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) National Rivers and Streams Assessment (NRSA). One of the objectives of the RSQA, and thus the MSQA, is to characterize the relationships between water-quality stressors and stream ecology and to determine the relative effects of these stressors on aquatic biota within the streams (U.S. Geological Survey, 2012). To meet this objective, a framework of fundamental...

This dataset contains a summary of the characteristics of near-surface flow reversals at the Electrical Dispersal Barrier System (EDBS) on the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal at Romeoville, Illinois during Water Year 2018 (October 1, 2017, to September 30, 2018). Water velocity near the water surface is measured on a five-minute sampling interval in the EDBS using surface velocity radar at nine measurement cells on a cross section near U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 05536995 (Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal at Romeoville, Illinois). Flow reversal events are analyzed for each individual cell as well as for the average velocity over all nine cells. For the analysis of individual cells, a flow reversal event is...

This shapefile is a vegetation map of Weir Farm National Historic Site, Connecticut. A map showing the locations of the vegetation associations within the park was created following the USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program protocols (The Nature Conservancy and Environmental Systems research Institute 1994c). Each vegetation association was cross-walked to the National Vegetation Classification System (NVCS) or names modified from level II of Anderson's land use land cover classification system. The map is based on field work performed in the fall of 2003 and the summers of 2004-2005.

This data release presents data that were collected as part of a larger effort to assess factors that regulate thermal stratification and mixing in small ponds. This work was part of an international collaborative effort with the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON). From May to October 2019, temperature and light were measured throughout the water-depth profile of two artificial ponds located near Jamestown, North Dakota. Meteorological and bathymetric data also were collected. The ponds, managed by the U.S. Geological Survey Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center, are representative of the small inland wetlands of the Prairie Pothole Region of North America. Data from this collaborative study...
