Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling in the Chistochina mining district in the Mount Hayes A-2 and A-3 quadrangles, Alaska, from June 30 to July 15, 2009. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska's geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geological mapping. Cook Inlet has been recognized as the second-largest petroleum province in Alaska, second only to the North Slope. The south-central Tyonek Quadrangle is an area of significant geologic interest because it is the only location in Cook Inlet where the entire producing stratigraphy of the basin is exposed on the surface. Additionally, this area encompasses the structural boundary between the forearc basin and its sediment source rocks. This map illustrates extents and types of unconsolidated deposits and bedrock in the Big Delta A-4 Quadrangle, Alaska. This map is based on field observations begun by P�w� in 1949 and by Reger in 1976. Unit characteristics and extents were determined during field visits and by interpreting 1:40,000-scale black-and-white aerial photographs taken in August 1949 and 1:63,360-scale, false-color infrared aerial photographs taken in July 1978, August 1980, and August 1981.

The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska's geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geologic mapping. Reflectance data from HyMap™ were processed using the Material Identification and Characterization Algorithm (MICA), a module of the USGS PRISM (Processing Routines in IDL for Spectroscopic Measurements) software (Kokaly, 2011), programmed in Interactive Data Language (IDL; Harris Geospatial Solutions, Broomfield, Colorado). Approximately 1,900 line square kilometers of imagery were collected using a HyMap™ sensor (Cocks and others, 1998) mounted on a modified Piper Navajo aircraft. The aircraft was flown at an altitude of approximately 5,050 m (3,480 m above the mean ground surface elevation of 1570 m) resulting in average ground spatial resolution of 6.7 m. Solar elevation and azimuth angles ranged from 42.0-48.3° (average 46.2°) and 134.2-182.4° (average 155°), respectively. HyMap measured reflected sunlight in 126 narrow channels that cover the wavelength region of 455 to 2,483 nm. This data release contains elemental concentration data from the reanalysis of 13,930 archived stream-sediment sample and associated stream sediment reference material and 968 archived rock samples and associated rock reference material. All archived material was from samples that were collected in Alaska. Samples were retrieved from the USGS Mineral Program's sample archive in Denver, CO. Sample processing consisted of splitting the appropriate aliquot for the requested analyses. This DGGS Raw Data File presents 40Ar/39Ar age dating results for selected igneous rocks encountered in the Styx River area of the western Alaska Range. Crystallization ages on biotite and hornblende from plutonic rocks range from about ~60 to ~63 Ma, while a sericite alteration age in plutonic rocks altered by a dike swarm also is around ~63 Ma. Sericite alteration associated with a copper-molybdenum porphyry ranges from ~10 to ~11 Ma. Analyses were performed by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geochronology Laboratory, and results were reported by Paul Layer and Jeff Benowitz. This dataset provides an orthorectified aerial photo mosaic derived from airborne fodar data acquired in 2021 on August 31 over the Totatlanika River in central Alaska. The term “fodar” is a portmanteau of foto and lidar, coined by Matt Nolan, which describes a method of quantifying the color and elevation of Earth’s surface via airborne small-format digital camera photography.

These data were part of a pilot tracking study of three adult female caribou from the Fortymile Herd in Alaska. The dataset is comprised of two comma separated values (.csv) files. Data includes: 1) processed (i.e., erroneous locations removed) GPS locations for caribou, received once per hour for 6 months (October 1998 to April 1999), and 2) spatial, temporal, and biological attributes of three female caribou tracked during the study.

The HyMap imaging spectrometer measured reflected sunlight in 126 narrow channels spanning the 0.4 to 2.5 micron wavelength region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The data were collected at a nominal 6-m ground-instantaneous field of view (GIFOV). A total 1,900 square kilometers were collected. This data release provides flight line data for the survey and a report describing the dataset and procedures.

A map of the wavelength position of the white mica 2,200 nanometer (nm) Al-OH absorption feature was compiled for a region of Nabesna, Alaska, using HyMap™ reflectance data provided and described in this data release. White mica wavelength position was computed for each pixel with spectrally predominant muscovite or illite. The computation was made using a function of the USGS PRISM (Processing Routines in IDL for Spectroscopic Measurements) software (Kokaly, 2011), programmed in Interactive Data Language (IDL; Harris Geospatial Solutions, Broomfield, Colorado).
