These data were compiled for/to modeling efforts for U.S. Bureau of Reclamation National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analyses for the Colorado River in Grand Canyon, Arizona. Objective(s) of our study were to create revised monthly Lake Powell elevations and outflows from Bureau of Reclamation Colorado River Mid-term Modeling System (CRMMS) traces that incorporate the alternatives in the sEIS documents and indicate when potential actions may occur and how that changes water movement and storage. This data release contains the climate change model inputs and Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model outputs from 360 HUC-8 watersheds in the Midwest United States (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin), that were generated using the HAWQS (Hydrologic and Water Quality System) platform (https://hawqs.tamu.edu). The summarized data for a watershed-based climate change vulnerability assessment for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is also provided, along with the R code used to summarize the raw outputs. Hydroacoustic estimates of fish density are used for fisheries management in central Lake Erie. Hydroacoustic data were collected along up to four cross-lake transects in central Lake Erie July 2010 through July 2019. Software-generated raw variables used for calculating estimates of hydroacoustic fish densities are presented here.

The data in this release were used to help evaluate and understand the distribution of fish and invertebrates as well as ecological response to streamflow, water temperature, and water chemistry within the Fountain Creek Basin. This data release consists of invertebrate data collected between 1985 and 2022, fish data collected between 2003 and 2022, as well as the data neccesary to recreate the tables and figures in the associated U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report (http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/sirXXXXXXXX). This dataset contains Sr:Ca of water and fin ray samples of native fish to evaluate upstream fish passage through a navigation lock in the Des Plaines River (Brandon Roads Lock and Dam). Fin ray samples from several native fish taxa (catostomids, ictalurids, centrarchids, and lepisosteids) were collected in two river reaches downstream of Brandon Roads Lock and Dam, and in a river reach upstream of Brandon Roads Lock and Dam. Fin ray Sr:Ca derived from microchemistry analyses of fin ray materials from a laser ablation transect is included as both edge values and entire transect (including edge). The data support a study that surveyed the spatial distribution of Oncorhynchus mykiss and Cottus aleuticus eDNA in coastal streams of Big Sur, California, 2021-2022 following post-fire debris flows. The metadata represent qPCR quantification cycle (Cq) values for O. mykiss and C. aleuticus assays performed on water samples collected during June and July of 2021 and 2022 from the following streams: Big Creek, Mill Creek, Prewitt Creek, and Willow Creek. The metadata also includes the distance (meters) of each eDNA sample site from the stream mouth, volume of water (Liters) collected for eDNA analysis at each site, and the Y-intercept, slope, and R-squared value for each assay run.

This dataset contains two- and quasi-three-dimensional hydrodynamic model outputs from the Flow and Sediment Transport with Morphologic Evolution of CHannels (FaSTMECH) hydrodynamic model in the open-source binary Visualization Toolkit (VTK) format (https://vtk.org/). The simulations were run at flows in the range of 185-635 cms at increments of 30 cms. This set of flow conditions pertains to the base lateral eddy viscosity scenario referred to as LEVx1 in Call et al., 2023. These two datasets contain metrics from hydrodynamic and particle tracking simulations for two sub-reaches of the Upper Missouri River near Wolf Point, MT. The upstream reach is referred to as the “upper” reach while the downstream reach is referred to as the “lower” reach. Simulations were performed for 16 flows in the range of 185-635 cms at increments of 30 cms.

The dataset contains Sr:Ca and Ba:Ca of water samples for the Mississippi River and tributaries as well as otolith Sr, Ba, Mg values from fishes collected in navigation pools 4, 8, 13, and 26 of the Upper Mississippi River, as well as the Open River Reach of the Middle Mississippi River and the La Grange Pool of the Illinois River. Since 2005, the U.S. Geological Survey - Great Lakes Science Center's Lake Erie Biological Station (LEBS) has participated in a collaborative, multiagency effort to assess pelagic prey fish populations in the western (WB), central (CB), and eastern (EB) basins of Lake Erie through a combination of hydroacoustic and midwater trawl sampling. Assessing lake-wide distribution and abundance of pelagic prey species over time facilitates evaluation of large-scale drivers of fish production while also considering food-web dynamics at a smaller sub-basin scale. Data includes grass carp position and sampling data from 2020 to 2022. We used grass carp that were implanted with acoustic transmitters. The position data was generated in Fathom Position from receivers that composed several VEMCO Positioning Systems (VPS). We also queried the Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation Network (GLATOS) to obtain non-VPS position detections from receivers made from multiple projects across Lake Erie and associated tributaries. Sampling data was downloaded from the grass carp capture database hosted on ArcGIS Online These data contain information such as location of event, time gears were deployed and retrieved, and number of grass carp caught.

This dataset contains particle starting location files for particle tracking simulations of the Upper Missouri River near Wolf Point, MT using the “Fluvial Particle” particle tracking model (https://doi.org/10.5066/P9K1U4O0). Field observations in a Lake Ontario embayment suggested that there is a phototaxic response of larval cisco that changes with development. This switch was verified using cultured cisco in a laboratory environment. These data include counts of cisco larvae at three depth ranges within multiple 95 liter tanks. Each tank of larvae were exposed to one of three different light treatments with three replicate tanks per treatment. Field datasets include a topobathymetric digital elevation model (DEM) for a 10-km reach of the Missouri River, repeat surveys of channel bathymetry from 2019-2021, water surface elevation profiles, velocity data collected with acoustic Dopper current profiler (ADCP). The dataset contains a hybrid bathymetric-topographic digital elevation model (DEM) of the Upper Missouri River near Wolf Point, MT. The DEM was generated within ArcGIS by compositing bathymetric data from multiple single beam sonar surveys collected between June 2018 and July 2019 with previously existing topographic data collected from airborne LiDAR into a triangulated irregular network (TIN). The resulting TIN was then manually edited and exported as a raster for use in developing a hydrodynamic model.
