These data identify the time (0-1 min, 1-2 min,or 2-3 min) and distance (≤50 meters, >50 meters) category when birds were first detected during 3-minutes point counts at stop locations associated with North American Breeding Bird Survey routes or route equivalents that were surveyed on dates between 2009 and 2016 and provide point location coordinates of stop locations along North American Breeding Bird Survey routes or route equivalents within (or within 60 miles) the Gulf Coastal Plains & Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative boundary.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) studied several sites in the northern East Gulf Coastal Plain of Alabama to investigate effects of newly installed box culverts on the natural conditions of the streams they are traversing (Pugh and Gill, 2021). Data collection for the study spanned approximately 10 years and included before-, during-, and after-construction phases of box culvert installations at selected stream sites. The objectives of the project were to (1) assess the degree and extent of changes in geomorphic conditions, suspended-sediment concentrations, turbidity, and benthic macroinvertebrate populations at selected small streams following box culvert installation...

Soil survey maps were examined to better understand the surficial materials at each study site. Soil maps provide information about soil properties and their behavioral characteristics. Soil survey maps were generated using the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (USDA-NRCS) Web Soil Survey (WSS) tool (http://websoilsurvey.sc.egov.usda.gov/). The USDA-NRCS WSS maps are presented as separate Portable Document Format (PDF) files. References Soil Survey Staff, Natural Resources Conservation Service, United States Department of Agriculture. The grassland condition index raster data layer assigns to each 30 meter pixel in the GCPO a condition index score generated by the presence or absence of a set of desired conditions such as patch size, vegetation height, etc. This grassland bar code layer indicates which conditions contributed to the index value score, and by how much, by use of a nine-digit code. The digits in the code represent the following input conditions in order: potential for restoration, presence of a grassland ecological system, presence of prairie (a subset of grasslands characterized by the presence or dominance of native vegetation), configuration in a patch > 100 acres, and the four site-level condition endpoints: vegetation height...

The amount, configuration, and condition of grasslands, prairies, and savannas in the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GCPO LCC) was assessed at 30 meter spatial resolution. Each pixel was assigned a score based on a dichotomous decision tree evaluating the following: whether described as a grassland ecological system class, if not, whether potentially restorable to grassland, if grassland, whether dominated by native plants (prairie), whether in a patch >100 acres in size, and whether described as having any of four condition endpoints: vegetation height (> 1 meter), vegetation cover (> 80% herbaceous or < 20% shrub), tree density (< 10 trees per acre), and disturbance pattern...

A three-dimensional groundwater flow model (MODFLOW-2005) of the Mississippi embayment, South-Central United States, was developed as part of a national project initiated by the U.S. Geological Survey Groundwater Resources Program to provide updated assessments of groundwater availability in important principal aquifers across the United States. The goals of the national assessment are to document effects of human activities on water levels and groundwater storage, explore climate variability effects on the regional water budget, and evaluate the adequacy of data networks at a regional scale. The Mississippi embayment was chosen because of the substantial dependency on groundwater for agriculture and municipal needs....
