These data were compiled to assess the recovery of vegetation on reclaimed oil and gas sites. Objective(s) of our study were to assess patterns in reclamation outcomes relative to 1) soil attributes, climate, and time since 39 reclamation and 2) plant and soil reference benchmarks. These data represent observations of vegetation and soil cover from 134 reclaimed oil and gas well pads and 583 AIM reference plots. These data were collected on lands impacted by oil and gas development on the Colorado Plateau as well as Arizona and New Mexico Plateau of New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. Data was collected from July- September of 2020 and May-September of 2021. These data were collected by Assessment Inventory and Monitoring...

The Canyon de Chelly National Monument Vegetation Map Database was developed as a primary product in the Canyon de Chelly National Monument Vegetation Classification, Distribution, and Mapping project. The map database represents vegetation at three levels of thematic organization at the park: the base, group, and management map classes. Most of the base map classes represent plant communities identified to National Vegetation Classification associations. The associated report, Vegetation Classification and Distribution Mapping Report: Canyon de Chelly National Monument, describes in detail the methods used to develop the map database and map classes. The project was sponsored by the USA-National Vegetation Mapping...
The Mesa Verde National Park Vegetation Map Database was developed as a primary product in the Mesa Verde National Park Vegetation Classification, Distribution, and Mapping project. The map database maps vegetation at three levels of thematic organization at the park: the base, group, and management map classes. Most of the base map classes represent plant communities identified to National Vegetation Classification associations. The associated report, Vegetation Classification and Distribution Mapping Report: Mesa Verde National Park, describes in detail the methods used to develop the map database and map classes. The project was sponsored by the USA-National Vegetation Mapping Program and the National Park Service...
Multispectral remote sensing data acquired by the Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor were analyzed using a new, automated technique to generate a map of exposed mineral and vegetation groups in the western San Juan Mountains, Colorado and the Four Corners Region of the United States (Rockwell and others, 2021). Spectral index (e.g. band-ratio) results were combined into displayed mineral and vegetation groups using Boolean algebra. New analysis logic has been implemented to exploit the coastal aerosol band in Landsat 8 OLI data and identify concentrations of iron sulfate minerals. These results may indicate the presence of near-surface pyrite, which can be a potential non-point source of acid rock drainage....

The Navajo Nation covers over 70,000 km2 in the Four Corners area of Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Climate data from the Navajo Nation have been both sparse and sporadic during the past 100 years, and have been limited to daily data from a handful of National Weather Service Cooperative Observer sites. Climate science researchers have identified the area in and around the Navajo Nation as among the most climate-data poor in the region, and the need to remedy this situation has been identified by both the Desert LCC and the Southern Rockies LCC. This USGS Arizona Water Science Center digitized paper climate data records recorded between 1988 and 1995, including portions of 25 volumes of fan-fold line-printer computer...

These data were compiled to support and inform the Bureau of Land Management’s Colorado Plateau Native Plant Program and to guide future management action when selecting regions to collect and increase seed for native plant materials development. The objective of our study was to develop geospatial datasets to aid land managers and restoration practitioners in identifying areas that will need to be restored in the future (currently disturbed) as well as areas to source new native plant materials for propagation with increased climate similarity to these areas across the Colorado Plateau, Arizona/New Mexico Mountains, and Arizona/New Mexico Plateaus. These data represent species distribution models for 12 high priority...
