This dataset consists of the boundary extent used to evaluate regolith thickness, bedrock altitude, depth to water, potentiometric-surface altitude, and saturated thickness for the shallow groundwater system in the Lower Gunnison River Basin, in Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

This data set includes results for hormone and pharmaceutical compounds analyzed in environmental and quality-control samples collected by the USGS National Water-Quality Assessment Project during 2013 through 2015 for a study of groundwater resources used for drinking-water supply across the United States. Hormone and pharmaceutical results are provided for environmental samples collected at 1,120 wells or springs; selected ancillary data, such as principal aquifer, well depth, and land-use information also are provided for the sampled sites. This data release includes one tab-delimited text file detailing these data. This data release documents three Microsoft Excel tables (and corresponding comma separated data files) that contain estimates of tritium in precipitation data for the continental United States. Versions of this data release contain additional tritium data for more recent years. The current version has tritium data through 2022. Table 1 contains estimates of tritium in precipitation for precipitation stations located in the continental United States. This data release pertains to a seepage investigation and dye tracing study conducted in the Big Creek watershed of Newton County, Arkansas. The seepage dataset includes geospatial files of discharge measurement points and zero-flow observations along with vector lines delineating losing and gaining stream reaches. The dye tracing dataset consists of geospatial files of monitoring sites, dye injection location, and dye flow paths. Groundwater from the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer (MRVA) is a vital resource for agriculture and drinking-water supplies in the central United States. Water availability can be limited in some areas of the aquifer by high concentrations of trace elements, including manganese and arsenic. Globally, groundwater dependent ecosystems (GDEs) are increasingly vulnerable to groundwater extraction and land use practices. Groundwater supports these ecosystems by providing inflow, which can maintain water levels, water temperature, and chemistry necessary to sustain the biodiversity that they support. Many aquatic systems receive groundwater as a portion of base flow, and in some systems (e.g., springs, seeps, fens) the connection with groundwater is significant and important to the system’s integrity and persistence. This data release includes a polygon shapefile of grid cells attributed with values representing the simulated base-flow, evapotranspiration, and groundwater-storage depletions as a percentage of hypothetical well pumpage for the 2011-2060 time period. Depletions were simulated by the Phase-Three Elkhorn-Loup Model (ELM), constructed using MODFLOW-NWT (Niswonger and others, 2011). This data set consists of the results of the statistical analysis (Asquith and others, 2020) of the remaining 10,295 water level records that met specific criteria to ensure that the water level records were representative of true groundwater conditions in the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer. The data are provided in a CSV file named StatisticalAnalysis.csv, and in the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) shapefile format consisting of a group of files that have been compressed into a zip archive named StatisticalAnalysis.zip.

Shallow soil characteristics were mapped near Shellmound, Mississippi, using the DualEM 421 electromagnetic sensor in October 2018. Data were acquired by towing the DualEM sensor on a wheeled cart behind an ATV, with the sensor at a height of 0.432 meters (m) above the ground surface. Approximately 175 line-kilometers of data were acquired over an area of nearly four square kilometers, with 25 m separation between survey lines. Data were manually edited for noise sources such as powerlines or other buried structures, and averaged to regular output soundings every 5 m along survey lines. A sensitivity analysis of groundwater-recharge estimates from a water-budget model was completed for the islands of Oahu and Maui, Hawaii (Johnson and others, 2023). Results of the sensitivity analysis were used to quantify the relative importance of selected model parameters to recharge estimates for three moisture zones (dry, mesic, and wet) on Oahu and Maui. This dataset consists of point gravity station data for 95 stations in the middle Carson River basin as published on figure 7 in the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2011-5055. The points have values of the complete Bouguer anomaly and observed gravity. In addition, 641 selected gravity stations from the U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 42 titled "Gravity data of Nevada" used in this study are included for reference and users are advised to reference that publication for information on those data. This dataset consists of polyline estimates of the thickness of basin-fill sediments at 200-foot contour intervals for the middle Carson River basin as published on figure 9 in the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2011-5055. The estimates were made using gravity data collected at 736 stations in the middle Carson River basin reduced to a residual complete Bouguer anomaly. A relation between residual gravity and depth to bedrock was developed from descriptions on drillers logs of 25 wells that encountered bedrock.
