Airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic, and radiometric data were acquired November 2018 to February 2019 along 16,816 line-kilometers (line-km) over the Mississippi Alluvial Plain (MAP). Data were acquired by CGG Canada Services, Ltd. with three different helicopter-borne sensors: the CGG Canada Services, Ltd. Resolve frequency-domain AEM instrument that is used to map subsurface geologic structure at depths up to 100 meters, depending on the subsurface resistivity; a Scintrex CS-3 cesium vapor magnetometer that detects changes in deep (hundreds of meters to kilometers) geologic structure based on variations in the magnetic properties of different formations; and a Radiation Solutions RS-500 spectrometer that...
Shallow soil characteristics were mapped near Shellmound, Mississippi, using the DualEM 421 electromagnetic sensor in October 2018. Data were acquired by towing the DualEM sensor on a wheeled cart behind an ATV, with the sensor at a height of 0.432 meters (m) above the ground surface. Approximately 175 line-kilometers of data were acquired over an area of nearly four square kilometers, with 25 m separation between survey lines. Data were manually edited for noise sources such as powerlines or other buried structures, and averaged to regular output soundings every 5 m along survey lines. This data release contains the processed data that have been averaged and culled to produce final resistivity models. Digital data...

This dataset is the raster, in feet, of the potentiometric-surface map, spring 2018, Mississippi River Valley alluvial (MRVA) aquifer. The raster cell size is 1,000 meters; the raster altitude data was referenced to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). The raster was interpolated using (1) most of the available groundwater-altitude data from wells and surface-water-altitude data from streamgages, and (2) potentiometric-surface contours.
This file contains site identification information of streamgages and paired wells to the streamgages operated by the U.S. Geological Survey in the State of Mississippi and within the Mississippi Alluvial Plain to monitor shallow groundwater conditions and aid in understanding the interaction between groundwater and surface water. Useful background on pairing groundwater and surface-water monitoring is provided by Constantz and others (2012). Differing scientific purposes of modeling or statistical studies could benefit from the identification of these sites for isolation or removal from comprehensive groundwater-level data projects for the Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer.
A sensitivity analysis of groundwater-recharge estimates from a water-budget model was completed for the islands of Oahu and Maui, Hawaii (Johnson and others, 2023). Results of the sensitivity analysis were used to quantify the relative importance of selected model parameters to recharge estimates for three moisture zones (dry, mesic, and wet) on Oahu and Maui. This shapefile contains the boundaries of the moisture zones and boundaries of the model subareas that were used in the model simulations for Oahu. The shapefile attribute information includes the names of the land-cover types assigned to model subareas and the mean annual recharge values determined for the model subareas for the baseline scenario of the...

Significant changes in nitrogen loads to Jamaica Bay have likely occurred with progressive improvements to Water Pollution Control Plants (WCWPs) that discharge into the Bay. Data available from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and others will be used to determine loads from WPCPs, combined sewer overflows, and the atmosphere. Selected wells within the USGS water quality database, including those near the landfills that are immediately adjacent to Jamaica Bay, will be used to determine concentrations of nutrients in shallow ground water that enter the bay from ground water seepage. To facilitate evaluation of ground water loads, an existing USGS Finite element model that simulates sub...

A three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework model (3D HFM) of the westernmost western Snake River Plain (WSRP) aquifer system was prepared to represent the subsurface distribution and thickness of four hydrogeologic units. The primary source of data for the 3D HFM was lithologic data from a total of 291 well-driller reports. These data were then processed using Rockware Rockworks17 three-dimensional modeling software. This dataset consists of five comma-delineated CSV files containing well information: location, lithology, well construction, aquifer, and comments. It is one of three related datasets.
