Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling in the Chistochina mining district in the Mount Hayes A-2 and A-3 quadrangles, Alaska, from June 30 to July 15, 2009. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska's geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geological mapping. We report U-Pb zircon geochronology results for one metavolcanic and one metaplutonic rock sample from the Mount Hayes A-6 Quadrangle of central Alaska. These samples are representative of rock units assigned to the Clearwater terrane of Jones and others (1987), a sequence of greenschist-grade metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of poorly constrained age and tectonic origin. Our results indicate a crystallization age of 277.33 +/- 11.84 Ma for a felsic metavolcanic rock, and a 268.05 +/- 11.64 Ma crystallization age for a granitic metaplutonic unit intruding the former.

The State of Alaska's Strategic and Critical Minerals (SCM) Assessment project, a State-funded Capital Improvement Project (CIP), is designed to evaluate Alaska's statewide potential for SCM resources. The SCM Assessment is being implemented by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS), and involves obtaining new airborne-geophysical, geological, and geochemical data. This report presents 40Ar/39Ar step-heating geochronology results for igneous and metamorphic rocks from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys' (DGGS) Wrangellia Mineral Assessment project, part of a multi-year effort focusing on improving the publicly available geoscientific information for the western Wrangellia terrane. Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) personnel collected rock samples while mapping the bedrock geology along a 12-mile-wide swath following the Alaska Highway between Delta Junction and the eastern edge of the Mount Hayes quadrangle near Dot Lake, Alaska. This mapping is one component of the multi-year DGGS project studying the geology, geohazards and resources along the proposed gas pipeline corridor from Delta Junction to the Canadian border. In 2006, we collected 10 samples for whole rock (major- and minor-oxides, and petrogenetically important trace-elements) analysis. This digital publication, GPR 2009-1, contains data produced from airborne geophysical surveys conducted in 2008 for the Slate Creek�Slana River survey area in the Chistochina mining district, south-central Alaska. Aeromagnetic and electromagnetic (EM) data were acquired by helicopter for about 442 sq miles. Fugro Airborne Survey's frequency-domain DIGHEM V system was used for the EM data. GPR 2009-1 includes (1) raw and processed linedata; (2) gridded data; (3) vector files of data contours and flight lines; and (4) maps of the data.
