These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This dataset, termed "GAGES II", an acronym for Geospatial Attributes of Gages for Evaluating Streamflow, version II, provides geospatial data and classifications for 9,322 stream gages maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). It is an update to the original GAGES, which was published as a Data Paper on the journal Ecology's website (Falcone and others, 2010b) in 2010. The GAGES II dataset consists of gages which have had...

The USGS compiles online access to water-resources data collected at approximately 1.5 million sites in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The U.S. Geological Survey's National Water-Use Information Program is responsible for compiling and disseminating the nation's water-use data. The USGS works in cooperation with local, State, and Federal environmental agencies to collect water-use information. USGS compiles these data to produce water-use information aggregated at the county, state, and national levels. Every five years, data at the county level are compiled into...

This model has been superseded by an updated version of the model. The new model can be found at: https://doi.org/10.5066/P99KJ1U1, https://doi.org/10.5066/P9FTZ5RW, https://doi.org/10.5066/P9NBWLYX, https://doi.org/10.5066/P97XBULI, https://doi.org/10.5066/P980EHWV, https://doi.org/10.5066/P95XLBB5, https://doi.org/10.5066/P9ICSZWF, https://doi.org/10.5066/P96LJ01V, and https://doi.org/10.5066/P9IZRO3V. A three-dimensional groundwater flow model (MODFLOW200-FMP1_1) of the Central Valley in California was developed to aid water managers in understanding how water moves through the aquifer system, to predict water-supply scenarios, and to address issues related to water competition. The USGS Groundwater Resources...

A three-dimensional, variable-density solute-transport model (SUTRA) was developed to evaluate the effects of three selected withdrawal/injection scenarios on salinity of groundwater (as simulated at damselfly anchialine-pool habitat) and discharge of freshwater to the nearshore environment of Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park (KAHO), Hawaiʻi. A base model was constructed using water-level, salinity, and withdrawal data available during the period from 2009 to 2017. Groundwater recharge for the base model was from a published daily water budget representing rainfall for the period 1984-2008. The SUTRA code was modified to include simplified unsaturated zone properties in the subroutine UNSAT. Changes in...

Seventy-five steady-state two-dimensional groundwater flow (MODFLOW-6) models of the shallow groundwater system were developed to map depth to water and estimate effective surficial transmissivity for the contiguous United States (CONUS). The models were driven by spatially-distributed recharge estimated by Reitz et al. (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7PN93P0) using average water-budget information for 1985-2015 and calibrated against long-term average water levels in observation wells, as well as, water-level estimates derived from perennial first-order streams and wetlands. The development of the model input and output files included in this data release, as well as post-processing used to derive additional water-budget...
