This dataset includes hourly stream temperature data for 139 temperature logger sites throughout the Lahontan Basin Region of Northern Nevada and Eastern California. Data loggers were part a study beginning in 2017, with data available through 2019 for most locations. The spatial data layer contains site locations, geographic information, data summaries, mean August stream temperatures, and modeled NorWeST stream temperatures. The Wet-Dry delineation file contains daily flow status estimates derived from stream temperature data for each site. The Site Visit file contains the date and time of the site visit along with associated information on site flow conditions, water depths, logger conditions, and stream logger...

Stream and Air data loggers were deployed in June of 2020 and downloaded in October 2020. The HJ_Andrews_Temperature file contains temperature data (in C°) by logger serial number, site, and usage for the study period. The HJ_Andrews_Pressure file contains pressure data (in kPa) by logger serial number, site, and usage for the study period. The HJ_Andrews_Points spatial data layer contains site locations, geographic information, data summaries, and mean August stream temperatures. The HJ_Andrews_Wet_Dry delineation file contains daily flow status estimates derived from stream and air temperature...

IMPORTANT NOTE: More recent versions of these data release are available at this link. This dataset includes spatial locations where streamflow permanence observations (continuous flow, discontinuous flow, and dry) were recorded using the FLOwPER (FLOw PERmanence) field survey available in the Survey 123 and S1 mobile application. Additional information to describe the field conditions are included as part of the survey. Field observations in the FLOwPER Database have not been processed for quality control including spatial data accuracy or association with a stream network such as the National Hydrography Dataset. Streamflow permanence observations are collected from several governmental and non-governmental organizations...

This dataset includes spatial locations where surface water presence observations were collected during the late summer baseflow period in Mt. Rainier National Park and surrounding area in Washington State, July 2018 - September 2020. Stream flow status (continuous flow, discontinuous flow, and dry) were recorded using the FLOwPER (FLOw PERmanence) field survey available in the Survey 123 and S1 mobile application for observations collected in 2019 and 2020. Observations collected in 2018 used an earlier version of the FLOwPER survey. Additional information to describe the field conditions are included as part of the survey. The observations were processed to correspond to pixels on the medium resolution National...

From 2011-2018 USGS biologists recorded vegetation and biological soil crust (BSC) cover by species and tracked survival of tagged individual plants (388 in total) across 40 locations where paired experimental plots had been installed in 2010. Plant cover was visually estimated using four 75 x 100 cm survey frames. Each site contained a two plots measuring 1.5 by 2.0 meteres: a control plot and a plot covered by a shelter that excluded 35% of incoming precipitation. Plots were selected to represent shallow vs. deep soils, sandstone vs. shale parent material, and dominant plant species on the Colorado Plateau around Moab, Utah. We used an information theoretic approach using generalized linear models to determine...

The NHD was queried by Conservation Biology Institute to identify all perennial streams from the flowlines dataset. This datset was converted to raster (at 30m resolution) to facilitate coverage calculations across reporting units and was used to determine the percent of Draft IR EPA impaired streams in Utah, based on UT's Draft IR datasets.Original metadata for the NHD: The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. This high-resolution NHD, generally developed at...

These polygon features represent a comprehensive inventory of perennial snow and ice on the landscape in Glacier National Park (GNP) in 2005. This dataset does not include the 2005 extent of the named glaciers in GNP, which have been previously published. Of the perennial snow and ice features delineated here, 1.68 km2 (15.08%) of the total area exhibits characteristics indicative of active glacial ice. The imagery used to delineate perennial snow and ice was taken late season, therefore, all snow and ice present on the landscape is assumed to be perennial. Polygons were digitized based on National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery acquired in 2005, imagery acquired by the National Park Service in 2004...

This produced dataset includes spatially aggregated records of measurements and observations from public and private organizations across the Upper Missouri River Basin. For this dataset the Upper Missouri River Basin is defined as Hydrologic Unit Code 1002-1013, and includes the states of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Streamflow measurements are an essential part of understanding the relationship between streamflow permanence and climatic and physical factors. For the purpose of this investigation, all streamflow observations were identified as perennial, non-perennial, or pooled to be used in the PROSPER (PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence) model.

In recent years, the USGS and partners have been integral in monitoring, analyzing, and modeling streamflow permanence. This community of practice includes key USGS scientists and partners who have been involved in the establishment and advancement of that science. The primary objective of this community is to provide an organized platform to document the activity and resources related to streamflow permanence. Additionally, we aim to facilitate more efficient collaboration among internal and external streamflow permanence experts.

Selected major rivers were extracted from all rivers and streams in the USGS 1:2,000,000 Digital Line Graphs (DLG) dataset. The major rivers include the Copper, Susitna, Kuskokwim, Yukon, Koyukuk, Kobuk, Noatak, and Colville Rivers. Set these rivers to the hierarchy attribute to "1". To access the complete statewide DLG dataset, refer to the "Rivers, 1:2,000,000" metadata. New to this coverage is a second hierarchical level of streams. These streams were pulled from the 1995 navigability coverage. This coverage, however, does not represent which streams are considered navigable by the state. The second hierarchy was added for cartographic purposes only - to provide a more complete river drainage layer on statewide...
