This data set includes taxonomic data for zooplankton, larval fish, and phytoplankton sampled in Little Holland Tract and Liberty Island Conservation Bank, in the northern Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, California. Zooplankton and larval fish were collected with target specific trawl nets and phytoplankton was collected from water grabs. This data release includes all measured environmental parameters.
The goal of this study was to develop a suite of inter-related water quality monitoring approaches capable of modeling and estimating spatial and temporal gradients of particulate and dissolved total mercury (THg) concentration, and particulate and dissolved methyl mercury (MeHg), concentration, in surface waters across the Sacramento / San Joaquin River Delta (SSJRD). This suite of monitoring approaches included: a) data collection at fixed continuous monitoring stations (CMS) outfitted with in-situ sensors, b) spatial mapping using boat-mounted flow-through sensors, and c) satellite-based remote sensing. The focus of this specific Child Page is to document a series of derived remote sensing products for turbidity...
Model archive for a numerical simulation of the one-dimensional advection-dispersion equation of a conservative tracer with oscillating tidal flows. The numerical simulation was used to examine how a conservative tracer evolves along a tidal channel. Scenarios were run to examine the effects increased dispersion, increased and decreased mixing at a channel junction, and increased advection. Code for the model was developed in Matlab (MathWorks® Inc., 2019). Model code, input and output files, and plotting scripts are available with this release. Details of the parameters used in the simulation and results are described in Stumpner et. al 2020. The README.doc file contains description of files provided and instructions...

The Sacramento / San Joaquin River Delta (SSJRD) is contaminated with legacy mercury (Hg) from historical mining and mineral processing activities throughout the watershed, as well as from contemporary atmospheric and industrial inputs. The current project was designed for the purpose of developing high-resolution spatial and temporal models for estimating concentrations of mercury species in surface waters of the SSJRD. The field component of the project brings together three high-resolution platforms for collecting water-quality data (fixed continuous monitoring stations (CMS) outfitted with in-situ sensors, spatial mapping using boat-mounted flow-through sensors, and satellite-based remote sensing) coupled with...

Water primrose (Ludwigia hexapetala) is an invasive aquatic plant that has rapidly increased in coverage throughout the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Water primrose has invaded wetlands and may contribute towards mortality of tules (Schoenoplectus spp.) and cattails (Typha spp.). Little research has been completed on the mechanisms responsible for marsh loss, but previous studies have suggested that water primrose contains allelopathic chemicals that could cause plant mortality. Three major allelopathic polyphenols (myricitrin, prunin, and quercitrin) previously identified in L. hexapetala leaves were measured in leaf, water, and soil samples from Delta marshes infested with water primrose. Samples were collected...
This data release includes water quality data collected from ponds on Boudin Island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Data were collected in the Bouldin East and Bouldin West ponds concurrently with a Delta Smelt Enclosure Study which involved three cages in each pond with approximately 60 Delta Smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus) in each cage. There were two fish deployments, the first deployment was from 11/21/2022 to 01/04/2023 (~6 weeks) and the second was from 02/02/2023 to 05/03/2023 (~13 weeks). Temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, specific conductance, salinity, chlorophyll, and pH were measured weekly. Water temperature was recorded continuously (15-minute sampling interval). Both the discrete (weekly)...

This data includes information on water quality, zooplankton, and fish sampled in ponds on delta islands in San Joaquin County, California. The islands include Bacon (North and South ponds), Bouldin (East and West ponds), Holland Tract (Middle, North, and South ponds), and Webb Tract (East, Middle, and North ponds). Discrete water quality parameters were measured bimonthly and continuous temperature was recorded every 15 minutes. Zooplankton were sampled monthly using a Schindler-Patalas 12L plankton trap with a 200mL Dolphin bucket with 61 micron stainless mesh. Fish were sampled once at each pond using beach seines, gill nets, and boat electrofishing gear.

Data release provides diffuse light attenuation coefficient of photosynthetically active radiation (KdPAR) derived from in-situ light measurements, along with surface water-quality and atmospheric data collected in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Rive Delta in California between January 2013 and May 2014. These associated surface level water-quality and atmospheric data, and categorical variables (for example season, region, etc.) were used to develop a KdPAR model using in situ light profile data collected in tandem, which we derived KdPAR from.
Fifty-one tidal marsh sites across five regions (sub-embayments) were surveyed in the Delta, Suisun Bay, San Pablo Bay, central San Francisco Bay, and South San Francisco Bay. Vegetation surveys spanned ten years, from July 2008 to January 2018. A total of 5,112 plots were surveyed. Plots were positioned on transects along an elevation gradient and evenly distributed across each site, where possible, to capture spatial variability along elevation and distance gradients. At each plot, percent cover of all plant species, bare ground, and litter as well as average height was visually assessed within a 0.25 m2 quadrat. Total plant cover in a plot could exceed 100 percent due to vegetation layering. Bare ground and litter...
