This digital data release contains geospatial data for the 1:250,000 scale geologic map of the Grand Island 1 degree by 2 degree quadrangle, Nebraska, originally published by Dreeszen and others (1973). The database includes line and polygon features depicting the extent of the Miocene Ogallala Formation and underlying Cretaceous rocks. The original map also included shaded patches indicating outcrop areas, and contour lines depicting the thickness of Quaternary deposits; these are not included in this database. The spatial data are accompanied by non-spatial tables that describe the sources of geologic information, a description of geologic map units, a glossary of terms, and a Data Dictionary that duplicates the...

Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB) is located about eight kilometers (km) northeast of the city of Lancaster, California. In 1990 EAFB was placed on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National priorities list due to the presence of contaminated soil and groundwater. The base was divided into Operable Units (OU) based on location and similar contaminant types (Lahontan Staff Report, 2010). The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) was established in the 1950’s, and contains facilities for research, development, testing, and evaluation of rocket propulsion systems (Lahontan Staff Report, 2010; AECOM, 2014), and has been in operation under various names since. Past activities at rocket test stands, evaporation ponds,...

This collection contains samples collected for Richard F. Hardyman's PhD dissertation, "Volcanic Stratigraphy and Structural Geology of Gillis Canyon Quadrangle, Northern Gillis Range, Mineral County, Nevada," from the University of Nevada Reno 1978. The fieldwork for the dissertation was supported by the USGS Special Projects Branch through a temporary "While Actually Employed" appointment. This collection consists primarily of Tertiary volcanic rocks stored in cardboard seven boxes on a wood pallet. Two of the boxes contain cut samples in individual containers within the boxes.

This data release presents reprocessed multichannel seismic-reflection (MCS) data that was originally collected in 1996 in partnership with the California Division of Mines and Geology and Caltrans as part of a seismic hazard assessment of the Coronado Bridge in San Diego Bay, California. The original survey collected 130 km of data with a 14-cubic inch sleeve-gun (airgun) source, a 24-channel streamer, and 3.125 m shot spacing. Reprocessed profiles show increased data resolution, with data recorded to 750 ms two-way-travel-time, and interpretable data down to about 400 m.

Formation tops were picked in 16,200 wells from the Williston Basin of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. Each formation top was picked using borehole geophysical log data. Many wells in the Williston Basin do not penetrate the entire stratigraphic section and in many other cases the shallow intervals were not logged. In total, there are 141,096 individual picks composing 29 sets of formation tops. Each top set represents a recognizable stratigraphic marker that can be correlated from well to well. The formation tops serve as foundational observations for building the stratigraphic and structural framework of the 3D petroleum systems model. How each formation top assigns to age, lithostratigraphic unit, and...

This child item contains one structural grid generated on the top of the Almond Formation (base Lewis Shale) and one grid on the top of the Fox Hills Sandstone. The top of the Lewis Shale and base of the Fox Hills Sandstone interfinger on a regional scale, so the top of the Fox Hills Sandstone was chosen as a structural horizon for consistency. The grids were generated by picking tops in borehole geophysical logs and interpolating between them in the Southwestern Wyoming Province in Wyoming and Colorado. The Lewis Shale in the eastern part of the province is bounded to the north and south by fault zones, to the east by uplift, and to the west by the Lewis stratigraphic pinch-out. The Lewis Shale has been uplifted...

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over Columbia, South Carolina, and the surrounding region. The airborne data collection was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Mapping Resource Initiative (Earth MRI) with goals of better understanding placer deposits containing critical mineral resources titanium, zirconium, and rare earth elements and of imaging the crystalline basement partly buried beneath Atlantic Coastal Plain sediments. The survey was flown northwest of and slightly overlapping an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey collected in 2019 (Shah, 2020). The northwestern boundary of the 2020 survey lies within the...

The San Luis Valley and associated underlying basin of south-central Colorado and north-central New Mexico is the largest structural and hydrologic basin of the Rio Grande Rift and fluvial system. The surrounding San Juan and Sangre de Cristo Mountains reveal evidence of widespread volcanism and transtensional tectonism beginning in the Oligocene and continuing to the present, as seen in fault displacement of Pleistocene to Holocene deposits along the eastern basin-bounding Sangre de Cristo fault system and fault zones along the western margin of the basin. The San Luis basin can generally be subdivided into northern and southern basins at the structural and physiographic high terrain of the San Luis Hills in the...

This Data Release contains 1:24,000-scale geospatially-enabled geological data to accompany the Geology of the Mineral and Lake Anna West quadrangles, Virginia. The map product is a cooperator series publication and, as such, does not have a specific abstract. Geologic mapping for this map product was completed between 2014 and 2017, with most of the field work occurring between January 2016 and May 2017. Numerous foot traverses were completed along creeks and roads throughout the field area; the shore of Lake Anna was accessed by kayak to provide additional data. Distributions of soil units were considered when assigning bedrock type in areas where outcrop was lacking and helped to distinguish fluvial terrace deposits....

The data release for the geologic map of the Salmon National Forest and vicinity, east-central Idaho, is a Geologic Map Schema (GeMS)-compliant version that updates the GIS files for the geologic map published in U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geologic Investigations Series Map I-2765 (Evans and Green, 2003). The updated digital data present the attribute tables and geospatial features (points, lines and polygons) in the format that meets GeMS requirements. This data release presents the geologic map as shown on the plates and captured in geospatial data for the published map. Minor errors, such as mistakes in line decoration or differences between the digital data and the map image, are corrected in this version....

This report summarizes the age-dating results from four terrace surfaces of the Littlerock Creek (map units T3g, T3c, T2, and T1c) that record cumulative strike-slip displacements ranging from 470 to 1080 meters along the Mojave section of the San Andreas Fault. Within this report are detailed the methodology used to collect samples of rock and sediment, determine concentrations of cosmogenic beryllium-10 in purified quartz isolated from the samples, and use those nuclide concentrations to calculate surface exposure ages. This report is for fourteen samples. Thirteen samples were collected by Adrien Moulin in 2016 with support from Emery Anderson-Merritt. One sample was collected by Katherine M. Scharer in 2018....
These geospatial files are the essential components for the Geologic Map of the Stibnite Mining Area in Valley County, Idaho, which was published by the Idaho Geological Survey in 2022. Three main file types are in this dataset: geographic, geologic, and mining. Geographic files are map extent, lidar base, topographic contours, labels for contours, waterways, and roads. Geologic files are geologic map units, faults, structural lines meaning axial traces, structural points like bedding strike and dip locations, cross section lines, and drill core sample locations. Lastly, mining files are disturbed ground features including open pit polygons or outlines, and general mining features such as the location of an adit....

This data release presents geologic map data for the surficial geology of the Durango 1-degree by 2-degree quadrangle and adjacent areas along the northern boundary of the quadrangle. The map area lies within two physiographic provinces of Fenneman (1928): the Southern Rocky Mountains province, and the Colorado Plateau province, Navajo section. Geologic mapping is mostly compiled from published geologic map data sources ranging from 1:24,000 to 1:250,000 scale, with limited new interpretive contributions. Gaps in map compilation are related to a lack of published geologic mapping, and not necessarily a lack of surficial deposits. Much of the geology incorporated from published geologic maps is adjusted based on...
