In advance of design, permitting, and construction of a pipeline to deliver North Slope natural gas to out-of-state customers and Alaska communities, the Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has acquired lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) data along proposed pipeline routes, nearby areas of infrastructure, and regions where significant geologic hazards have been identified. Lidar data will serve multiple purposes, but have primarily been collected to (1) evaluate active faulting, slope instability, thaw settlement, erosion, and other engineering constraints along proposed pipeline routes, and (2) provide a base layer for the state-federal GIS database that will be used to evaluate permit applications...

As part of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) effort to make final recommendations of federal land parcels to be considered for selection by the State of Alaska according to provisions of the Statehood Act, a decision was made to identify and evaluate potential access corridors. Corridor maps were compiled for a total of 78 quadrangles throughout Alaska. This map suite shows relevant geologic information at a scale of 1:250,000 for 10-mile-wide corridors straddling centerlines for proposed access routes throughout Alaska. The maps are based on geologic data compiled from existing, published mapping. Each compiled corridor geology map was used to derive maps of potential construction materials, data quality,...

This map shows the subcrop pattern of the Mesozoic rock units present at the top Mesozoic unconformity (also commonly referred to as the base Tertiary unconformity) in Cook Inlet basin, Alaska. The subcrop is projected onto the top Mesozoic unconformity depth surface of Cook Inlet basin, Alaska, published by Shellenbaum and others (2010). Publicly available geologic and geophysical data from multiple sources were collected, interpreted, and integrated into the subcrop map. Formation picks at the top Mesozoic unconformity were determined for 109 wells. Mesozoic horizons from two regional marine two-dimensional (2-D) seismic datasets (approximately 3,300 miles) were interpreted. Eight map units were established for...

The State of Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) is currently engaged in a multi-year study of the hydrocarbon potential of the Tertiary and Mesozoic strata in Cook Inlet basin. This report summarizes mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) data for 38 outcrop samples collected from the Tyonek, Beluga, and West Foreland Formations in the Tyonek and Talkeetna quadrangles. All samples were collected from measured stratigraphic sections. The Tyonek Formation samples have unimodal pore systems and the majority have well defined to sharp intrusion profiles. The Beluga Formation samples are characterized by unimodal pore systems and relatively broad intrusion profiles. The West Foreland Formation...

This publication, GPR 2015-3, contains geophysical data produced from airborne surveys conducted in 1996 and released in 1997 for 415 sq miles of the Petersville mining district, Alaska by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS). Aeromagnetic and electromagnetic data were acquired during the helicopter-based surveys. During 2004, the same digital data were reformatted for ease of use with modern processing tools, vector files and the 56,000 Hz resistivity grid, were added, and new color maps were produced. Except for leveling of the 56,000 Hz coplanar resistivity grid, no reprocessing of the geophysical data was done. The files represent the end part of the 2004 process. A few maps produced...

Geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) Mineral Resources Section conducted four weeks of helicopter-supported mapping and fieldwork from June 26 through July 24, 2013. The Styx River project in the Lime Hills C-1 Quadrangle was part of the State-funded Airborne Geophysical/Geological Mineral Inventory (AGGMI) program as part of the State's Strategic Minerals Assessment Project, an initiative designed to evaluate Alaska's potential for rare-earth elements, PGEs, and other similarly supply-challenged resources. The Styx River project area has active and ongoing mineral exploration for deposit types including porphyry copper/molybdenum/gold, reduced intrusion-related gold, and...

This digital publication, GPR 2014-5, contains data produced from airborne geophysical surveys conducted in 2012 and 2013 for the East Styx survey area in the McGrath and Yentna mining districts, Talkeetna, Tyonek, McGrath, and Lime Hills quadrangles, south-central Alaska. Aeromagnetic, electromagnetic (EM), and radiometric data were acquired by helicopter for about 1060 sq miles. CGG's frequency-domain DIGHEM V system was used for the EM data. GPR 2014-5 includes (1) raw and processed linedata; (2) gridded, Google Earth, and Geotiff formats of the calculated linedata; (3) maps of the data and flight lines; and (4) vector files of data contours and flight lines.
