Holocene sediments at Emerald Lake in central Utah (3090 m a.s.l), document the paleohydroclimatic history of the western Upper Colorado River headwater region. Multi-proxy analyses of sediment composition, mineralogy, and stable isotopes of carbonate (d18O and d13C) show changes in effective moisture for the past ca. 10,000 years at millennial to decadal timescales. Emerald Lake originated as a shallow closed-basin cirque pond during the early Holocene. By ca. 7000 cal yr BP, higher lake levels and carbonate d18O values indicate rising effective moisture and higher proportions of summer precipitation continued at least until ca. 5500 cal yr BP when a landslide entered the lake margin. This dataset includes radiogenic strontium isotope compositions of non-native walleye otoliths collected from select areas of the Upper Colorado River Basin (UCRB). Strontium isotope data have been widely used to assess natal areas for a variety of fish species. Following on previous work, this project sought to fill data gaps for walleye collected from the Colorado River (river miles 11-109.3), the lower Green River, Lake Powell, and McPhee Reservoir. Rock samples (n=4) of anhydrite with rounded nodules of braitschite, a hydrous calcium rare-earth borate mineral. Samples are from the Cane Creek Potash Mine, Texas Gulf Sulphur Company, located in Grand County, UT, south of Moab, Utah. The samples were discovered in the marine evaporites in the Paradox Member of the Hermosa Formation of Pennsylvanian age in the Paradox basin. The zone of braitschite nodules occurs in depths from 3,000 to 3,500 feet. The braitschite was found in pinkish to white nodules that are approximately 65% braitschite and approximately 35% quartz, anhydrite, dolomite, halite as well as minor amounts of hematite and the occassional crystals of chalcopyrite. This data release contains a geospatial database related to a digital 3D geologic framework of the Rio San Jose watershed, New Mexico. The geospatial database contains two main data elements: (1) input data to the 3D framework model; (2) interpolated elevations and thicknesses of stratigraphic units as a cellular array. Input surface and subsurface data for 18 stratigraphic units have been condensed to points that define the elevation of the top of each stratigraphic unit; these point data sets serve as the digital input to the framework model. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation, completed a review of dissolved selenium data collected from the Selenium Management Program network during each water year (WY) in the lower Gunnison River Basin, in western Colorado. This data release contains model code and input data for, and predictions from, both a dynamic stream dissolved solids and a static baseflow dissolved solids SPARROW (SPAtially Referenced Regression On Watershed attributes) model of the Upper Colorado River Basin for water years 1986-2017. Input data includes information on dissolved solids sources, landscape transport characteristics, and dissolved solids load calibration data from water quality monitoring stations. Model output includes predictions for every reach of total and incremental predicted loads and total and incremental loads from each source. The release of elements of concern (EoC) to surface water can involve both natural and anthropogenic sources. Elevated EoC concentrations can pose a risk to human health, wildlife, and ecosystem health, with the modes of toxicity and extent of risk varying as a function of the specific element, its chemical form and the matrix with which it is associated (for example, dissolved versus particulate).
