This data release contains the concentration and quality-assurance results for inorganic constituents, as well as organic compounds (volatile organic compounds [VOC], per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances [PFAS], pesticides and disinfection byproducts [DBP]) and microbiological results collected in the Little Big Horn River and residential or commercial tapwater locations in Montana. Twenty-two tapwater samples (six sourced from public supply and 14 sourced from private wells) and six surface-water samples were collected in Montana between August 8-10, 2022. Pharmaceuticals, VOC, and PFAS were analyzed at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) in Denver, Colorado. Pesticides and...

U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists completed a stream surveying campaign from the 26th of July to the 13th of August in 2021 at thirty 100m reaches within the Shenandoah Valley throughout Virginia and West Virginia. The goal was to collect three cross sections, water surface elevation at the top and bottom of each reach, and thalweg point data at each study location to use the geomorphological surveys alongside habitat information. Together, these two sources of data can be used to create a habitat assessment of Shenandoah Valley streams. Any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.

U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists completed a data collection campaign from the 25th of April to the 10th of June in 2022, using various methods to record geomorphic and habitat indicators throughout 30 streams on the Delmarva Peninsula. Field methods included GNSS surveys, gravelometer-based pebble count readings, visual assessments, and riparian analyses. This metadata record contains all raw observations from the campaign as well as numerous summary metrics to be used in model development. Those "model-ready" data can be found in Delmarva_Model_Deliverable.csv in the parent item, while the two child items containing raw in-channel observations and raw survey data. Attached to this release is a data dictionary...

This dataset contains the concentration and quality assurance results for inorganic and organic analytes collected for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Ecosystems Mission Area, Environmental Health Infrastructure Program, Tapwater Exposure Project conducted in Minnesota, in August of 2019. Samples were obtained from multiple publicly distributed water sources in Minnesota in 2019. Due to privacy concerns, the exact location where samples were collected are not reported and station identification numbers have been anonymized. Water-quality samples were analyzed for pesticides, pharmaceuticals, volatile organic compounds and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances at the USGS National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL),...

This dataset reports total arsenic (AsTot) results analyzed using an in-field biosensor system, Field-Ready Electrochemical Detector for Arsenic (FRED-Arsenic), developed by FREDsense Technologies Corp., Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Samples were collected from two public-supply wells (NH-SGW 93 and NH-SGW 65) and one private well (NH-KFW 87). NH-SGW 93 and NH-KFW 87 both withdraw water from a crystalline-rock aquifer. NH-SGW 65 withdraws water from a glacial sand and gravel aquifer. Twelve samples for NH-KFW 87 were collected and analyzed on May 14, 2019 with sample times ranging from 0730 to 1800, and 12 samples were collected and analyzed on August 20, 2019 with sample times ranging from 0830 to 1320. Eleven samples...

The threat posed by infectious diseases are a major concern for global public health and the role of migratory birds in pathogen transmission is increasingly under scrutiny. Enteric viral pathogen surveillance in migratory birds is a critical component of outbreak preparedness. The shedding of such pathogens through excrement into bodies of water located at migratory stop-over sites and breeding and wintering grounds creates conditions to potentially infect millions of birds annually. The mallard is the most abundant of all duck species and migratory across much of its range. Here we characterized enteric viral pathogens from the cecum of 16 captive raised mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) from Wisconsin, USA using...

These data comprise air, plant (creosote bush, Larrea tridentata), and unsaturated-zone tritium measurements and plant metrics collected during 2012 to 2016 from three sampling areas at the Amargosa Desert Research Site (ADRS) near Beatty, Nevada: (1) within a low-level radioactive waste facility, (2) buffer area adjacent to the waste facility, and (3) reference area 3 kilometers from the waste facility. Plant metrics include foliage-water content and canopy and stem dimensions. Supporting information includes a list of publications that provide descriptions of methods used to collect the data and results of previous tritium research at the ADRS. All data and supporting information are compiled in an electronic...

From October 2017 to June 2018, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) collected 101 surficial sediment samples from abandoned mine wastepiles, ephemeral channels below wastepiles, nearby outcrops, and background areas representative of the undisturbed lithology in the Browns Park mining district of northeastern Utah. Additionally, twelve sediment samples were collected in drainages associated with legacy sample locations from the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) program (reformatted by Smith, 2006). The Browns Park district is in the eastern arch of the Uinta Mountain Range, north of the Green River, and approximately 5 miles west of the...

This data release provides the concentration results for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) collected on French Island, in the town of Campbell, Wisconsin, sampled quarterly beginning in 2021. These samples were collected from groundwater wells (potable and non-potable taps) by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Upper Midwest Environmental Science Center (UMESC). Three U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified laboratories were contracted to analyzed samples for this study. Samples from the first sampling in 2021, were analyzed by SGS Axys Laboratory (AXYS) in British Columbia, Canada. Samples from the second sampling in 2021 were analyzed at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), University...
