This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release contains meteorological, water temperature, light (photosynthetically active radiation and illumination), and multichannel fluorescence sensor data from the Finger Lakes Region of New York, during the fall of 2018 and the summer and fall of 2019 and 2020. It also includes all sensor data and associated discrete sample data, at the near surface (top), mid-depth (middle) and near bottom (bottom) depths. Data were collected from three Advanced Monitoring Pilot study platforms in open water at Seneca Lake (USGS station number 425027076564401), Owasco Lake (USGS station number 425327076313601), and Skaneateles Lake (USGS station number 425606076251601) in 2018 and 2019,...

These data were compiled as part of a long-term (1964 - 2022) water quality monitoring program at Lake Powell. Objectives of our study were to release a consistent record of long-term water quality data. The 58-year limnology dataset captures some water quality parameters (temperature, salinity, major ions, total suspended solids) from reservoir filling to present day. It also contains a 38-year record of secchi depth, and a ~30-year record of nutrients, phytoplankton, and zooplankton assemblages. The data were collected from various sites within the Lake Powell reservoir and the Glen Canyon dam. Regular monthly sampling occurred at three sites near the dam and reservoir-wide sampling was generally conducted quarterly,...

These data provide beryllium-7 (7Be) and excess lead-210 (210Pbxs) activity for fine-grained, mobile, streambed sediment in the Black Creek, Indiana (IN) stream-channel network. This basin is monitored in cooperation with the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). During the period July 22-25, 2019 (summer low flow), the thickness and spatial extent of soft, mobile, fine-grained (mainly silt and clay) streambed sediment was inventoried and sampled along 150-meter (m) transects. A combination of stream corridor land-use distribution, valley type, channel slope, stream order (Strahler, 1957), and ecoregion (Omernik and Griffith, 2014) was used to select 30 rapid geomorphic assessment reaches using methods of Fitzpatrick...

The study area included the coasts of all five U.S. states along the northern Gulf of Mexico (i.e., Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas). We contacted federal, state, and university-affiliated scientists working with SET-MH data within this area to obtain the geographic coordinates and the installation year for each SET-MH station. Please note that while our inventory is extensive and includes most SET-MH stations in the region, our inventory is not fully exhaustive; in other words, it is possible that some stations in the region are not contained within this inventory. The SET-MH stations in our dataset include original SET, deep rod SET (RSET), and shallow RSET benchmarks.

Dissolved oxygen estimates were generated to help understand how different alternative management scenarios may affect the likelihood of low dissolved oxygen in Glen Canyon Dam releases. The study aimed to examine the effects of different management alternatives on late summer and early fall dissolved oxygen concentrations in Glen Canyon Dam releases. The estimates represent estimates of dissolved oxygen concentration in Glen Canyon Dam releases between August and October of a given year. These estimates were generated using data collected in Lake Powell reservoir as part of a long-term inter-agency water quality monitoring program conducted by the Bureau of Reclamation, the National Park Service, and the U.S. Geological...

This data release includes time-series data and qualitative descriptions from a monitoring station on a steep, landslide-prone slope above the City of Sitka, Alaska. On August 18, 2015, heavy rainfall triggered around 60 landslides in and around Sitka. These landslides moved downslope rapidly; several were damaging, and one demolished a home on South Kramer Avenue and killed three people. On September 16-18, 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey installed instrumentation at a site near the initiation zones of these landslides and other previous landslides on the west face of Harbor Mountain. The station consists of an electronics enclosure, a mounted rain gage, and two instrumented soil pits. Instruments record continuous...

Endangered Banbury Springs limpet and threatened Bliss Rapids snail populations in springs along the Snake River in southern Gooding County, south-central Idaho, are declining. To protect these species, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) needs to understand what affects the species' habitat such as aquatic vegetation, associated with elevated nitrate concentrations in the springs. In cooperation with the USFWS, the U.S. Geological Survey developed surrogate regression models to estimate nitrate concentration using specific conductance, day of the year, and streamflow as potential explanatory variables. These surrogate models provide a cheaper alternative than measuring nitrate concentrations directly, through...

These data were compiled for a manuscript entitled 'Vital rates of a burgeoning population of Humpback Chub in western Grand Canyon. Objective(s) of our study were to compare survival and growth of humpback chub in western Grand Canyon to that from the more established metapopulation in eastern Grand Canyon that spawns in the Little Colorado River (LCR). These data represent capture histories of fish based on mark-recapture data. These data were collected in eastern Grand Canyon (CR-east study site) and in the western Grand Canyon (CR-west study site). The CR-east reach sites are located at the lower 13.56 rkm of the LCR and in the mainstem of the Colorado River at river kilometers (rkm) 126.2-128.7 (2009-2016)...
