Lake Poinsett is a 260-hectare (640 acres) lake located on Crowley’s Ridge in northeastern Arkansas, approximately 6 km southeast of Harrisburg, Arkansas within Poinsett County. The lake was built for recreation by the Arkansas Highway Department in 1960 by constructing a roughly 800-meter dam across the southern boundary of the Distress Creek watershed. The dam is currently operated by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC). AGFC and Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (ANRC) plan to drain the lake to allow access for a series of bank stabilization and dam safety improvements. Because none of the original blueprints exist, AGFC asked the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to conduct a series of differential...

This data release pertains to a seepage investigation and dye tracing study conducted in the Big Creek watershed of Newton County, Arkansas. The seepage dataset includes geospatial files of discharge measurement points and zero-flow observations along with vector lines delineating losing and gaining stream reaches. The dye tracing dataset consists of geospatial files of monitoring sites, dye injection location, and dye flow paths. Hydrologic systems in karst environments have a high degree of interconnectivity between surface water and groundwater systems. Because of this interconnectivity, activities which occur on the surface in karst environments have a direct impact on the water quality and quantity of karst...

Shallow soil characteristics were mapped near Shellmound, Mississippi, using the DualEM 421 electromagnetic sensor in October 2018. Data were acquired by towing the DualEM sensor on a wheeled cart behind an ATV, with the sensor at a height of 0.432 meters (m) above the ground surface. Approximately 175 line-kilometers of data were acquired over an area of nearly four square kilometers, with 25 m separation between survey lines. Data were manually edited for noise sources such as powerlines or other buried structures, and averaged to regular output soundings every 5 m along survey lines. This data release contains the processed data that have been averaged and culled to produce final resistivity models. Digital data...

Problem The Village of Dryden, rural homeowners, farms, and businesses in the Virgil Creek Valley tap several confined sand and gravel aquifers in the Virgil Creek valley in the town of Dryden . The valley contains a large moraine with complex stratigraphy consisting of continuous and discontinuous layers of till, lake deposits, and glaciofluvial sand and gravel. Sand and gravel units form the aquifers in the valley-fill deposits. There are at least three extensive confined aquifer units at various depths. However, little is known about (1) the location of recharge and discharge areas, (2) direction of groundwater flow, (3) extent of hydraulic connection between aquifer units, and (4) extent of surface- and ground-water...

A three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework model (3D HFM) of the westernmost western Snake River Plain (WSRP) aquifer system was prepared to represent the subsurface distribution and thickness of four hydrogeologic units. The primary source of data for the 3D HFM was lithologic data from a total of 291 well-driller reports. These data were then processed using Rockware Rockworks17 three-dimensional modeling software. This dataset consists of five comma-delineated CSV files containing well information: location, lithology, well construction, aquifer, and comments. It is one of three related datasets.
