The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have collaborated to acquire high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric data, over northern and western Nevada and eastern California, to support geologic and geophysical mapping and modeling that will assist geothermal and critical mineral studies. The surveys, referred to as GeoDAWN (Geoscience Data Acquisition for Western Nevada), span areas of major resource potential associated with the Walker Lane and western Great Basin. They were conducted under the USGS’s Earth Mapping Resource Initiative (EarthMRI), with support from the DOE’s Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO), and involved acquisition of aeroradiometric and aeromagnetic data...

This data release provides access to an aeromagnetic survey over a part of northern California, an area that includes the cities of Portola, California, and Reno, Nevada. The survey extends across the northern part of the Sierra Nevada from Honey Lake in the north to Lake Tahoe in the south and over parts of the Sierra Nevada foothills. These data were acquired between March 3 and May 3, 2021, by EDCON-PRJ, Inc., working under contract to the U.S. Geological Survey. The nominal flying height was based on a best fit, pre-planned, three-dimensional draped surface targeted at 305 m above terrain, subject to aircraft climb and descent limitations. Steep terrain in parts of the survey area required significant departures...

Regional surface elevation grid files (provided in Grid eXchange File format) were used to study crustal architecture beneath the Southern Midcontinent (USA) by McCafferty and others (2019). The study covered a rectangular, multi-state area of 924 by 924 kilometers centered on Missouri, and a corresponding volume extending from the topographic surface to a depth of 50 kilometers below sea level. The grid files (magnetic field observation surface, topographic surface, Precambrian basement surface, and Moho interface) were used to construct templates and initial physical property models for 3D inversions. A masked version of the Precambrian basement surface grid was used to remove inverted densities and magnetic susceptibilities...

This child item contains magnetometer (MAG) data collected along and around the Animas River near Silverton, Colorado in support of other data collected at the site. The MAG tool measures the magnetic field from one or multiple sensors. A Geometrics G-858AP instrument with GPS and backpack was used, with two magnetometers vertically mounted on the operator-carried staff to enable measurement of the magnetic field gradient. Additional details are contained in the ‘readme.txt’ files within each zip data directory.

This data release contains gridded aeromagnetic data from a dataset that merges two aeromagnetic surveys of northeastern California. Data from the Alturas and Burney surveys were gridded and merged to provide a continuous, detailed aeromagnetic dataset of the region. The merged dataset was then corrected for the inclination of the Earth's magnetic field (reduced to pole or rtp); match-filtering of the merged rtp gridded dataset provides three dipole-equivalent source layers at 0.85 km (shallow), 3.28 km (medium), and 16.4 (deep) km. Magnetization boundaries were calculated using the maximum horizontal gradient method on the match-filtered gridded data. Lastly, a magnetic field caused by magnetic terrain was calculated...

Regional grid files and 3D voxel models were used to study crustal architecture beneath the Southern Midcontinent (USA) by McCafferty and others (2019). The study covered a rectangular, multi-state area of 924 by 924 kilometers centered on Missouri, and a corresponding volume extending from the topographic surface to a depth of 50 kilometers below sea level. The grid files consist of surface grids (magnetic field observation surface, topographic surface, Precambrian basement surface, and Moho interface) used to construct templates and initial physical property models for 3D inversions, observed geophysical data grids (Bouguer gravity anomaly and reduced-to-pole (RTP) aeromagnetic anomaly) used in the inversions,...

During the summers of 2017 and 2020, our team collected gravity, ground magnetic (ATV and hiked traverses), paleomagnetic and rock property (density and susceptibility) data on the Umatilla Indian Reservation (UIR) in northeast Oregon to aid in characterizing subsurface stratigraphy using 2D and 3D modeling methods. This data was integrated with conductance surfaces from a 3D magnetotelluic model and regional stress data to generate geothermal resource favorability maps to inform future exploration and drilling efforts by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).

This 3D voxel model of density in GOCAD format was used to study crustal architecture beneath the Southern Midcontinent (USA) by McCafferty and others (2019). The study covered a rectangular, multi-state area of 924 by 924 kilometers centered on Missouri, and a corresponding volume extending from the topographic surface to a depth of 50 kilometers below sea level. The 3D voxel model describes the density of the crust and upper mantle as interpreted using 3D inversion. The masked version excludes densities in areas where the Precambrian basement surface elevations are unknown. The individual voxel elements are 2,000 by 2,000 meters by 500 meters thick. The GOCAD voxel (GRID3D or Voxet) file format is documented...

This dataset contains magnetometry data and design files related to testing of new drone-based magnetometer configurations and magnetic compensation software. Data were collected in Santa Cruz (CA) in September 2020 to compare two magnetometer systems that are flown with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Each system was flown using different suspension designs. To compare the systems and to characterize noise levels of the systems, calibration patterns and dense grid surveys were flown with each configuration. This dataset was further used to test magnetic compensation software. The overall aim of this study was to compare the variability of different UAS-based magnetometry systems that can be used for geophysical...
