This data release contains data associated with the journal article "Modeling the maturation history of the stacked petroleum systems of the Williston Basin, USA". Collectively, the data release includes 13 child items and metadata files that provide detailed descriptions of the attributes, processing steps, and original data sources. There is also a data table, "Williston_Basin_Data_Release_Overview.csv" that describes how all the child items are linked with one another.

This study presents Raman spectroscopic data paired with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to assess solid bitumen composition and porosity development as a function of solid bitumen texture and association with minerals. A series of hydrous pyrolysis experiments (1-103 days, 300-370°C) using a low maturity (0.25% solid bitumen reflectance, BRo), high total organic carbon [(TOC), 14.0 wt. %] New Albany Shale sample as the starting material yielded pyrolysis residues designed to evaluate the evolution of TOC, solid bitumen aromaticity, and organic porosity development with increasing temperature and heating duration. Solid bitumen was analyzed by Raman spectroscopy wherein point data was collected from accumulations...

This dataset contains estimated total organic carbon (TOC) calculated using the delta log R (dlogR) method, developed by Passey and others (1990), within BasinMod modeling software for the Tuscaloosa marine shale (TMS) in southwestern Mississippi, U.S.A. BasinMod is a modeling software developed by Platte River Associates, Inc. Using version 2021-03-03 of the software, sonic and resistivity logs and a background TOC of 0.8 weight percent were used to calculate dlogR TOC in the TMS high resistivity zone (HRZ) after baselining these two log curves in a non-source rock interval within the TMS. Due to variable mineralogy between the upper and lower sections of the TMS, two baselines were selected to determine whether...

These data tables describe the inputs and parameters for the 3D petroleum systems model. This section of data is included for users wishing to rebuild the 3D basin model from scratch, either in PetroMod or another basin modeling software package. All inputs and settings for model construction are included. Settings summaries are provided in a data bundle of comma-separated value (CSV) tables. Also included is the “Williston_Basin_model_inputs_glossary.csv” data table that provides a brief description of all the columns/value fields in the data bundle. This is a child item of a larger data release titled "Data release for the 3D petroleum systems model of the Williston Basin, USA".
