Mono Lake is a hypersaline (~85 ppt), alkaline (pH 9.8), closed-basin lake located in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, USA (38°N, 119°W). Water enters the lake primarily from snowmelt and exits by evaporation (~1 m/yr). This hydrological condition, plus weathering reactions in the lake’s tributaries, produce the uniquely high salinity and pH characteristic of Mono Lake (Garrels & MacKenzie, 1967). These properties also tightly tie lake levels and water chemistry to climate, with modern and Pleistocene high stands correlated with wet Sierra Nevada conditions (Benson et al. 1998). This product consists of multiple tabular datasets and associated metadata of water quality information related to rivers, streams, and lakes in the Yukon River watershed between 2014 and 2018. This data release is apart of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) funded Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) and is an assessment of water quality and greenhouse gas fluxes within the interior of Alaska. he hydrodynamic and constituent transport model UnTRIM was used to simulate hydrodynamics in Upper Klamath Lake, a shallow, hypereutrophic lake in which currents are responsive primarily to wind forcing. A simplified version of a dissolved oxygen model was used to simulate the transport of oxygen-depleted water from a deep trench on the western shoreline into important fish habitat in the northern part of the lake. Two scenarios were tested: a strong prevailing wind scenario and a weak prevailing wind scenario. Following the May 2005 acid crater lake flood at Chiginagak volcano, DGGS has been monitoring crater lake water that flows into Indecision Creek, Mother Goose Lake, and the King Salmon River. This data table provides information on water samples collected between 2005 and 2012 near Chiginagak volcano, including: sample ID, latitude, longitude, location description, pH, and cation and anion chemistry results.
In the White River basin, water demand has increased with human development. Water development projects impact White River hydrology and sediment transport which can, in turn, affect resident Colorado pikeminnow populations. Robinson Forest, in eastern Kentucky, is a research forest owned and operated by the University of Kentucky (UK) since the 1920s. This USGS data release evaluates the impact of historical mining sites on water quality using samples collected in late July 2021 from Big Creek tributaries Coin Creek, Smith Creek, and Monumental Creek in Valley County, Idaho. These data were collected to support a fisheries mining impact assessment in the Middle Fork Salmon River. Specific conductance, pH, and stream temperature were measured in the field. Dataset consists of 4-day, 14-day, and full life responses of laboratory cultured mayflies (Neocloeon triangulifer) to nickel and zinc exposure. Responses were measured as mortality, body weight, development time, and reproduction. Water quality and analytical chemistry results associated with toxicity data are included. This data set is a compilation of data from two sampling efforts (2010 and 2014), focused on determining the presence and distribution of organic contaminants throughout the United States portion of the Great Lakes watershed. Water-borne contaminants were monitored in 69 tributaries of the Great Lakes using semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs), and polar organic chemical integrative samplers (POCIS). Analyses included 185 chemicals (143 detected) including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), legacy and current-use pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) and organophosphate fire retardants, pharmaceuticals, fragrances, industrial chemicals, surfactants, and others.

Biological endpoints for three focal test species [Daphnia magna (mortality), Psuedacris maculata (mortality, growth, and development), and Lemna gibba (growth)] in response to exposure to reconstituted or field-collected water under laboratory conditions. Field-collected waters were collected from wetlands within the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) of the United States. Reconstituted water was mixed to mimic some chemistry of surface water from brine contaminated PPR wetlands. Also included are water quality and chemical concentration data from all assays.

In 2019, soil samples were collected at selected sediment-retention ponds in the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area, near Delta, Colorado. This dataset includes pond location, pond characteristics, soil-moisture data, soil-chemistry data, and geophysical data. The Bushy Park Reservoir is a relatively shallow impoundment in a semi-tropical climate and is the principal water supply for the 400,000 people of the City of Charleston and the surrounding areas including the industries in the Bushy Park Industrial Complex. This data release includes physical and chemical characteristics of field collected samples from streams and rivers within the Tri-State Mining District (TSMD) as well as toxicity endpoints from chronic water-only and sediment laboratory exposures including survival and growth of the mussel Lampsilis siliquoidea; survival, growth, and reproduction of the amphipod Hyalella azteca; metal concentrations, and various water quality parameters collected during the toxicity studies.
