This dataset contains environmental tracer data from surface water and groundwater samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in Redwell Basin, an alpine watershed in the Elk Mountains near the town of Crested Butte, Colorado. The basin is underlain by interbedded shale and sandstone that have been variably hydrothermally altered and silicified by local magmatic intrusions. Samples were collected from 2017 to 2019 from bedrock monitoring wells completed at multiple depths, shallow hand-installed piezometers and mini boreholes, springs, mine adits, and streams. Hydrologic reconnaissance of Mineral Creek near Silverton, Colo., was conducted from June 25-27, 2020. Both banks of Mineral Creek and the adjacent hillsides were walked, starting near the ghost town of Chattanooga and proceeding downstream to the confluence of Mineral Creek with the Middle Fork of Mineral Creek. The purpose of this reconnaissance was to identify areas of emergent groundwater on the right (EGR) and left (EGL) banks, a task that was accomplished by following observed surface flows (seeps and springs) upgradient to the point at which they emanated from the subsurface. This U.S. Geological Survey data release provides a comprehensive dataset of water-quality data and sampling-site characteristics collected in 1978–2018 during a study of the effects of land disposal of treated wastewater on groundwater quality in an unconsolidated sand and gravel aquifer on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Treated sewage-derived wastewater was discharged to rapid-infiltration beds at Joint Base Cape Cod for nearly 60 years before the disposal was moved to a different location in December 1995. Groundwater, soil pore water, and surface water were collected in and near wetland P1 in the Cottonwood Lake Study Area, Stutsman County, North Dakota in August 2013. Groundwater was collected from established wells (17, 18, and 22) via peristaltic pump. Surface water was collected from P1 ponded water via grab sample. A multivariate regression model was developed to predict zero-order oxygen reduction rates (mg/L/yr) in aquifers across the State of Wisconsin. The model used a combination of dissolved oxygen concentrations and mean groundwater ages estimated with sampled age tracers from wells in the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System and previously published project reports from state agencies and universities. Aliquots of collected water samples were prepared for isotopic analysis at the USGS laboratories in Menlo Park, CA by precipitating dissolved sulfate as barium sulfate, using the methods of Carmody and others (1997). Sulfur isotopes were analyzed at the USGS laboratories in Reston, Virginia. For sulfur isotope ratio measurements, dissolved sulfate is converted to BaSO4, which is analyzed by conversion to sulfur dioxide with an elemental analyzer and subsequent analysis with a continuous flow isotope ratio mass spectrometer (Brenna, 1997).
