Purpose

This map layer showing GAP Status Codes assigned to protected areas is used in the National Biogeographic Map (NBM) https://maps.usgs.gov/biogeography/. The data is used for the analysis results shown in two Analysis Packages in the NBM: Protection Status of Ecological Systems and Protection Status of Terrestrial Vertebrate Species. Note that this map layer and the analysis results in the NBM is based on version 1.4 of the Protected Areas Database of the United States. A more current version of PAD-US (version 2.0) can be found here: https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/5b030c7ae4b0da30c1c1d6de.
