This data release documents spatiotemporal water-quality, landscape, and climatic conditions in Fairfax County, Virginia from 2007 through 2018. These data were used to evaluate the water-quality and ecological condition of 20 Fairfax County watersheds monitored since 2007. Data include measures of water-quality, precipitation, air temperature, land use, land cover, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, soil properties, geologic setting, and stream networks. Annual values from 2007 through 2018 are reported for data expected to change over time. Watershed-specific values are reported for data that differ across the landscape. Annual values for the 20 study watersheds and Fairfax County are reported in the file...

This data release contains cyanotoxin, chlorophyll-a, and pheophytin-a concentration, cyanobacterial genetics, phytoplankton community composition, and multiparameter sonde data collected from 20 sites in five northeastern United States river basins (Penobscot (ME), Santuit (MA), York (VA-WV), Salem (NJ), and Peconic (NY)). Solid Phase Adsorption Toxin Tracking (SPATT) passive samplers were deployed at all sites between August 31 and September 2, 2020, and retrieved after 7 days. Discrete water samples were collected when SPATTs were deployed, and at 2 sites (USGS station IDs 01670257, 0167014792), samples were also collected when the SPATTs were recovered. Sonde data were collected when deploying and retrieving...

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and suspended-sediment (SS) loads, in Fairfax County, Virginia streams have been calculated using monitoring data from five intensively monitored watersheds for the period from water year (October - September) 2008-2017. Nutrient and suspended-sediment loads were computed using a surrogate (multiple-linear regression) approach with lab analyzed N, P, and SS samples as the response variable and basic water-quality parameters (e.g. turbidity, specific conductance, pH, water temperature), streamflow, and time and seasonal terms that could be measured continuously as predictor (surrogate) variables. The load results represent the total mass of N, P, and SS that was exported from each of...

These data were collected to understand the occurrence of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in the middle Chickahominy River watershed, Virginia. Specifically, this effort was initiated at selected locations in the middle Chickahominy River watershed to: 1. Determine concentrations of PFAS in surface water; 2. Determine concentrations of PFAS in edible portions of fish; 3. Determine concentrations of PFAS in bed sediment; and 4. Quality Assure all data collected in accordance with USGS policies and publicly release those data as a citable USGS Data Series. Description of Available Datasets: These data are available in four Excel (.xlsx) files that contain water-quality and quality-assurance results....
