Many stamens in single series. Blooms from April to July. Leaves: Alternate but crowded into fascicles. Three-cleft, 0.2 to 1 inch long, wedge-shaped with rolled margins. White fuzz beneath. Seeds : Spindle-shaped, 1/2 inch long, exserted from calyx tube with persistent break. Plant : Intricately branched shrubs 1 1/2 to 9 feet high with brown to gray bark. Drought resistant.
