Easement data are available to the public and for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Easement boundaries and centroids are available in Internet Map Services. The amount of information available to the public is limited in order to preserve Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Section 1619 of the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 limits the disclosure of certain information provided by agricultural landowners and producers to participate in USDA programs.
Although Section 1619 prohibits the release of geospatial information maintained by NRCS about agricultural land or operations for which information was provided by an agricultural landowner or producer to participate in NRCS programs, boundary information on conservation easements held by the United States is considered public information regarding realty interests held by the United States. This information is not considered to be information provided by agricultural landowner or producer for participation in USDA programs, and may therefore be released without regard to the provisions of Section 1619.
