In April 2016, in response to the White House Memorandum M-16-01, Incorporating Ecosystem Services into Federal Decision Making (Memorandum), The Department of the Interior (DOI) Office of Policy Analysis gathered representatives from 12 DOI bureaus and offices to form the DOI Ecosystem Services Task Force. The following DOI bureaus or offices are represented on the Taskforce:
- Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
- Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
- Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM)
- Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation)
- Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE)
- Department of the Interior; Office of Policy Analysis (PPA)
- Department of the Interior; Office of the Secretary (OS)
- Department of the Interior; Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance (OEPC)
- Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)
- National Park Service (NPS)
- Office of Insular Affairs (OIA)
- United States Geological Survey (USGS)
DOI bureaus and offices designate members to serve on the Task Force. The Task Force is Co-Chaired by the Office of Policy Analysis and a chair to be rotated among member bureaus and offices.
One of the initial activities undertaken by the Taskforce was to draft the document titled: Incorporating Ecosystem Services into Natural Resource Decision Making: A Work Plan Prepared by the Department of the Interior (referred to as the Workplan). The Task Forceprovides a basis for a collaborative, joint DOI undertaking to provide the policies, guidance and tools to successfully implement the Memorandum and Work Plan.
