This multi-LCC project is designed to evaluate delivery of existing courses offered through the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) as “pilots” to enhance expertise needed within the regional context of LCC and Climate Science Center (CSC) communities. Feedback from these offsite training sessions and other strategic discussion will help identify and prioritize which tools to include in future training for staff and partners. A pre-workshop and in-person exercise was conducted by reviewing SIAS metrics and other LCC activities for products required of the LCCs, determining the process/skills/tools needed to deliver this training, and listing training opportunities that are available or needed to develop that capacity. A preliminary list of courses that may appeal to LCC staff skills training needs is provided in the final report. Six courses were offered on location within LCCs requesting these courses to provide regional access by partners and stakeholders to training previously offered by NCTC only on the main campus. February 24-28 - Intro to Structured Decision Making, Auburn University, AL (southeast LCCs) March 4-6 - Climate Smart Conservation, Sacramento, CA (CALCC) May 19-21 - Climate Smart Conservation, Tucson, AZ (Desert LCC) July 28-Aug 1 – Toolbox Week at NCTC, Shepherdstown, WV (LCC staff, council, steering committees). Two training short courses were offered concurrently for training of all-hands LCC staff as well as other steering committee members (up to capacity) on site at NCTC. Specific training in the mornings alternated with afternoon sessions to identify additional training needs, work on the LCC Strategic Plan and finalize the Science Agenda. August 18-22 - Structured Decision Making Workshop, Mississippi State University, Starkville, MS (Southeast LCCs) Sept 29-Oct 3 - Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment, La Crosse, WI (Midwest LCCs) See location/date, description, instructors & number of participants at the end of the final report.
