Groundwater-level measurements were used in the construction of a potentiometric surface of the Sparta-Memphis aquifer and represent synoptic conditions from January through May 2013. The potentiometric-surface mapping is part of an ongoing cooperative agreement between the USGS, the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, Arkansas Geological Survey, and the Union County Water Conservation Board, whose purpose is to quantify current groundwater resources, evaluate changes in these resources over time, and provide the information needed to address future human-related and environmental stresses.
