Summary

Datasets include hydrogeologic cross section wells within the Red River alluvial aquifer surficial extent, Red River alluvial aquifer base contours and wells, isopach map showing combined thickness of the Red River alluvial aquifer sand and gravel units, wells used to construct the isopach map of the Red River alluvial aquifer, wells used to construct 25-foot contours showing altitude of the base of the Red River alluvial aquifer, cross-section wells within the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer, thickness of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer contours and well points, contours showing the altitude of the base of freshwater of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer, outcrop extent of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer outcrop, and the approximate down-dip limit of freshwater. Purpose

The Red River alluvial and Carrizo-Wilcox aquifers are two of the most important aquifers in northwestern Louisiana and documentation on the regional hydrogeologic framework of northwestern Louisiana is sparse. In response to this need, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development began a study in 2009 to consolidate information from and build upon previous studies of the Red River alluvial and the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifers to characterize the regional hydrogeologic framework in northwestern Louisiana. These data were collected to help provide better understanding and for use as planning and management tools for groundwater resources.
