Summary
In 2009, the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho released and implemented the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Master Plan. This plan aimed to restore, enhance, and maintain the Kootenai River habitat and landscape to support and sustain habitat conditions for aquatic species and animal populations. Summary

In support of these restoration efforts, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder bathymetric surveys, velocity surveys, and collected images of substrate in the Lower Meander Reach (RM 143 - 145.5). This data release contains bathymetry, velocity, and substrate data from surveys performed on the Kootenai River between 2012 and 2017 as part of the Substrate Enhancement Pilot Project mapping (SEPP) under the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Master Plan.
Biological velocity mapping surveys were conducted to help support understanding and interpretation of biological monitoring results. Velocity mapping was coincident with the Idaho Fish and Game biological monitoring program at the constructed Shorty's and Myrtle substrate enhancement pilot project sites and other known spawning areas. Acoustic doppler current profiling (ADCP) data was collected to describe streamflow characteristics including total streamflow, velocity magnitude and secondary flow structure, and backscatter intensity at cross-sections at the Shortys Island on the Kootenai River. Each of the cross-sections consisted of transects or bank-to-bank coverage to obtain a representative velocity pattern. These data were collected during surveys of velocity on the Kootenai River at Shorty's Island. These survey operations were conducted on June 3, 2013.
A once-per-year multibeam bathymetric mapping event was at the two discrete SEPP sites (Shorty's Island, and Myrtle Bend) to include ~10,000 linear feet of the Kootenai River Meander Reach. Bathymetric data were collected in the field using the Hypack software Hysweep. The bathymetric data were collected using a multibeam echosounder (MBE) system mounted on a USGS-owned and operated 25-foot jet boat research vessel. A complete description of standard data collection methods is described in Fosness (2013). These data were data collected during surveys of velocity on the Kootenai River at Shorty's Island and Myrtle Bend. These survey operations were conducted November 4-8, 2013.

Purpose
The purpose of this data release is to summarize all monitoring data collected at the SEPP sites (Shorty's Island and Myrtle Bend). These data include ~10,000 linear feet of the Kootenai River Meander Reach. The first site (Shorty's Island) is located near River Mile 143.0 and the second site (Myrtle Bend) is located near River Mile 145.5.
