Summary

These datasets contain XYZ locations and other attributes of points from topographic bank surveys of sites LM102 and LM108 downstream from Logan Martin Dam near Vincent, Alabama, from October 16, 2014, through July 18, 2017. Topographic data were collected using a tripod-based terrestrial LiDAR (T-LiDAR) system at several tripod setups distributed throughout the reach. Data collection software integrated and stored the range and angular measurements from the T-LiDAR. Computer software was utilized to process the raw data files, align the various scans in reference to one another, and extract the topography data in a usable format. Point cloud comparison software was then used to compute the distance and volume gain or loss between [...]

Purpose

Topographic data were collected within the study area to capture the geomorphological characteristics of the above-water portions of the river bank. These data are intended for science researchers, policy makers, and hydraulic engineers interested in assessing the condition of the channel bank, and to monitor changes with time. The bmp raster files were included to provide a preview of the difference data contained in these datasets. The attached zip folders called "Coosa_River_bank_lidar_LM102_Survey_Data.zip" and "Coosa_River_bank_lidar_LM108_Survey_Data.zip" each contain 6 separate folders; each folder contains an ASCII text file with XYZ data and a bmp raster preview image for a given survey date at the site. Additionally, metadata is included for each text file and raster pair. The attached zip folders called "Coosa_River_bank_lidar_LM102_Comparison_Data.zip" and "Coosa_River_bank_lidar_LM108_Comparison_Data.zip" each contain 6 separate folders; each folder contains an ASCII text file with XYZ difference data and a bmp raster preview image for a given time interval between surveys at the site. Additionally, metadata is included for each text file and raster pair. The attached zip folder called "LoganMartin_DailyFlow.zip" contains a comma-delimited file with the daily mean flows for the site for the period covering the 6 surveys, a pdf raster preview image, and metadata.
