Summary
This dataset contains annual irrigated acreage for New Mexico and Texas from 1938 through 2010 for six canal service units used in the Lower Rio Grande Basin groundwater flow model (SSPA, 2007). Irrigated acreage values were extracted from the New Mexico Office of the State Engineer’s (NMOSE’s) Canal spreadsheet, version 11.2 (Barroll, P., NMOSE, written commun., 2011).

This dataset was used to scale monthly crop irrigation requirement (CIR) values for the six canal service units obtained from the NMOSE’s Canal spreadsheet, version 11.2 (Barroll, P., NMOSE, written commun., 2011) (see the Canal_Balance_CIR tabular dataset). Monthly CIR values from the NMOSE’s Canal spreadsheet were scaled by the fraction of the annual acreages included in this dataset relative to the area of these service units as simulated with the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM) (see the RGTIHM_Service_Unit_Acreage tabular dataset). This scaling resulted in the monthly CIR values for the seven canal service units simulated in the RGTIHM (see the RGTIHM_CIR tabular dataset).
