Groundwater-level differences are intended to show where water levels have risen or declined from select years, across the Sparta-Memphis aquifer, in Arkansas. It should be noted that water levels in the aquifer may have declined or risen since the selected groundwater-level measurements were made. Groundwater withdrawal rates and pumping from nearby wells were not always known and could have affected the groundwater-level data collected for the selected years. Groundwater-level change maps are a component of the potentiometric-surface mapping, which is an ongoing cooperative agreement between the USGS, the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Division, Arkansas Geological Survey, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Union County Water Conservation Board, and the Union County Conservation District, whose purpose is to quantify current groundwater resources, evaluate changes in these resources over time, and provide the information needed to address future human-related and environmental stresses.
