Summary
The study area for the project “Modeling Habitat Connectivity to Support State Wildlife Action Plans in the Mid-South” is an expansion of the boundary of the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GCPO LCC). The expansion process selected one or two additional counties in all directions and included the entire state of Louisiana. HUC12 level watersheds intersecting these counties were selected and a two-kilometer buffer was applied. Some line editing of the polygon was applied to eliminate donut holes and extremely incised areas resulting from the irregular shapes characteristic of watersheds. The GCPO LCC boundary covers about 180 million acres. The Mid-South Connectivity Project Study Area is about one third larger, covering 239 million acres (97 million hectares, 373 thousand square miles).
