Summary

This dataset includes bird species, invertebrate order and family, sample identification codes, collection date, latitude, longitude, site name, bird age, invertebrate life stage, invertebrate trophic group, carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes in birds and invertebrates, total mercury concentrations in bird blood, and methylmercury concentrations in composite invertebrates.

Purpose

Data were collected to determine differences in stable isotope signatures of baseline aquatic and terrestrial invertebrate food webs, to quantify differences in MeHg between aquatic and terrestrial prey, to develop a two-end member mixing model for terrestrial predator (arachnids and songbirds) reliance on aquatic carbon, to evaluate seasonal changes in the proportion of aquatic carbon in the diet of terrestrial predators, and to correlate seasonal changes in aquatic carbon reliance to their Hg exposure.
