Summary

In 2015-2016, physicochemical properties and chemical characteristics of stream water, bed sediment, groundwater, and soil were determined in watersheds located outside of, but in proximity to, the Peason Ridge Training Area and Main Post at the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk boundaries to document background trace element concentrations. Water samples were analyzed for physicochemical properties, major inorganic ions, selected trace elements, and dissolved organic carbon. Selected trace elements included antimony, arsenic, cadmium, copper, iron, lead, manganese, mercury, and zinc. Stream bed-sediment and soil samples were analyzed for major inorganic ions, selected trace elements, and grain size distribution. Surface-water [...]

Purpose

This data set provides the water-quality and grain-size data from water and sediment samples collected at surface-water sites. The zip folder called "site_grainsize_data" consists of five folders called "site1_grainsize," "site2_grainsize," "site3_grainsize," "site4_grainsize," and "site5_grainsize." Each site folder contains two CSV files with grain-size data and their related metadata files for the surface-water sites. The zip folder called "appendix_tables" contains 14 appendix tables that provide the concentrations of chemical data and accompanying metadata. Selected physicochemical data are presented in table 1 for stream water and table 2 for groundwater. Major inorganic ion data are presented in table 3 for stream water, table 4 for groundwater, table 5 for bed sediment, and table 6 for soil. Selected trace element data are presented in table 7 for stream water, table 8 for groundwater, table 9 for stream bed sediment, and table 10 for soil. Selected nutrients and organic carbon are presented in table 11 for stream water and table 12 for groundwater. Grain size analyses are presented in table 13 for bed sediment and table 14 for soil.
