The SET is a cross-programmatic, cross-regional team consisting of US Fish and Wildlife Service sagebrush ecosystem conservation practitioners.
Our mission: The SETs mission is to represent and work across US Fish and Wildlife Service programs and partnerships to deliver strategic conservation solutions for the sagebrush biome.
Our vision: Our vision is for a healthy, functional sagebrush biome that supports wildlife AND people.
Operational approach: The SET thrives on inclusion, partnerships, actionable science and delivery. We believe conservation investments should be transparent, accountable, and focused on strategic investments in common landscape-scale priorities and objectives. We understand the Service is but one partner in a larger community working together to conserve this special place; and, we understand this work will span many decades and many careers. Above all, we recognize this work is adaptive and we must evolve our conservation efforts in response to new information.
Technical approach: The SET employs a cross-cutting business model, underpinned by Strategic Habitat Conservation and the principles of landscape conservation. We: Set biological objectives for priority species; Develop landscape conservation designs and related tools to address the greatest threats to those species at a biome-wide scale; Deliver on-the-ground treatments to address those threats; Monitor to evaluate progress towards our objectives at landscape and local scales. We also communicate internally and externally around our work and its outcomes, both to facilitate technology transfer and to share our success.
We are aprogrammatic and celebrate the full suite of skills, tools, and resources SET members contribute to this effort. While we are based in Region 6, we welcome full participation by representatives from Regions 1 and 8. We also maintain strong ties to external partners, both through participating programs and through the larger SET.
