Summary

These data provide on-the-ground estimates of burn severity as estimated by the Composite Burn Index (CBI) for fires that burned between 1994 and 2018. Landsat imagery was subsequently used to develop regression relationships between the Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR) and differenced NBR (dNBR).

Purpose

CBI plot data with 30 m resolution for the conterminous US (CONUS) were collected to develop regression relationships with satellite estimates of burn severity (e.g. Landsat NBR) equations. To provide ecological context for each plot LANDFIRE Fire Regime (FRG) and Biophysical Settings (BPS), National Vegetation Classification (NVC), and Omernik I (Om1), II (Om2), and (Om3) classifications were extracted per plot location.
